Acute otitis media (AOM) is the most common cause of pediatric office visits in the United States and the most frequent bacterial infection in children. Antimicrobials are often prescribed and amoxicillin continues to be the first-line treatment for AOM. Recently, amoxicillin tablets that disperse in water to form an oral suspension have become available in the United States for the treatment of AOM.
