Dentinogenic ghost cell tumor (DGCT), a variant of the calcifying odontogenic cyst, is considered to be a benign epithelial and mesenchymal neoplasm containing aberrant epithelial keratinization, ghost cells, and spherical calcifications. While there can be peripheral and central variants of this entity, the extraosseous type is rarer and usually innocuous in its clinical presentation. The aim of this article is to report a case of peripheral DGCT on the maxillary anterior region in a 14-year-old female evolving for 5 years and to emphasize the importance of histopathologic examination of gingival growths to avoid diagnostic pitfalls.

Article Synopsis
  • - The rising occurrence of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in younger individuals necessitates careful diagnosis by oral pathologists, as some lesions can mimic malignant tumors.
  • - While pediatric malignancies like OSCC are rare in very young children, benign melanocytic lesions such as Spitz naevi are more common and can complicate diagnoses due to their histological similarities with cancer.
  • - Employing diagnostic tools like immunohistochemistry (IHC) and focusing on clinical and histopathological correlations is crucial, as illustrated by a case where a lesion initially suspected to be cancerous was found to be a benign melanocytic naevus.

The incidence of stroke plays the foremost role in the genesis of central neuropathic pain. Central post-stroke pain (CPSP) is a central pain arising from a vascular lesion in the central nervous system that elicits somatosensory deficits, often contralateral to stroke lesions. It is expressed as continuous or intermittent pain accompanied by sensory abnormalities like dysesthesia and allodynia.

Microalgae is one the promising source of energy for the production of biofuel and other value-added products to replace the existing conventional fossil fuels. However, low lipid content and poor cell harvesting are the key challenges. Based on the growth conditions the lipid productivity will be affected.

Introduction: The prime source of vascularization to the head and neck region is through the carotid arteries. The terminal branches of common carotid arteries, such as external carotid artery (ECA) and internal carotid artery (ICA), and their branches are crucial due to the wide area of distribution and variations in their branching pattern. The branching pattern and morphometry are essential for surgeons in the planning and execution of head and neck surgeries.

The emergence of powerful deep learning architectures has resulted in breakthrough innovations in several fields such as healthcare, precision farming, banking, education, and much more. Despite the advantages, there are limitations in deploying deep learning models in resource-constrained devices due to their huge memory size. This research work reports an innovative hybrid compression pipeline for compressing neural networks exploiting the untapped potential of z-score in weight pruning, followed by quantization using DBSCAN clustering and Huffman encoding.

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) with its unique and varied presentations histologically and clinically has always been an enigma. AOTs are multifaceted in their appearance with reports pointing out to its occurrence as a synchronous tumor, a purely cystic variant or with multiple foci; however, the three commonly encountered forms are Follicular/Coronal, Extra Follicular/Extra Coronal and Peripheral variants. Here, we present a subtype of the Peripheral AOT (PAOT) seen synchronous with an intraosseous cystic variant of AOT in a 16-year-old female in the anterior mandible.

  • A drug goes through multiple testing phases (in silico, in vitro, ex vivo, in vivo) before clinical trials, but only 32% reach Phase 3, and only 10% make it to market, highlighting a need for better pre-clinical models to reduce failures.
  • This study investigates the angiogenic potential of chick embryo aortic explants from various stages and regions, finding significant differences in sprouting rates and responses to angiogenesis-modulating drugs.
  • The research culminates in a novel angiogenic model focusing on tip cells, aimed at improving the precision of testing for future angiogenic drugs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how areca nut chewing and mechanical stress affect the oral mucosa, particularly focusing on the protein Loricrin, which is linked to changes in keratinocytes and may indicate early signs of oral conditions.
  • A total of 73 tissue samples were analyzed, classified into normal mucosa, hyperkeratotic, and oral submucous fibrosis, and stained for Loricrin to assess its expression levels.
  • Results showed a significant correlation between Loricrin expression and chewing habits, suggesting it might serve as an early diagnostic marker for conditions like oral submucous fibrosis.

In this communication, we present the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using medicinally important Nardostachys jatamansi rhizome extract in the presence of sunlight. UV-vis spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) were employed to characterize the synthesized AgNPs. UV-visible spectroscopic studies confirmed the presence of biosynthesized AgNPs.

Unlabelled: BACKGROUND: Human sperm cell preservation is an important part of assisted reproductive technology (ART).

Objective: This study aimed to find the essential and significant components in semen preservation extender required to prolong the shelf life of human spermatozoa.

Materials And Methods: By using the statistical tool 'Plackett-Burman design' the significant components present in E4 extender (formulated in our previous study) was determined by reducing the unacceptable large number of trial experiments from the full factorial method.

Article Synopsis
  • Nanoparticles of Li, Mg, and Sr doped and undoped zinc oxide were synthesized using a simple precipitation method, and their structural, optical, and magnetic properties were analyzed through various techniques such as XRD, SEM, and FTIR.
  • The XRD results confirmed the hexagonal wurtzite structure of all samples, while SEM images showed particle sizes between 10 nm and 50 nm, indicating successful doping.
  • Additionally, the optical analysis revealed changes in bandgap and luminescence due to doping, with pure ZnO being paramagnetic and doped ZnO exhibiting ferromagnetic properties, alongside assessing the photocatalytic activity of the samples.

Background: The practice of medicine in India has undergone considerable change affecting delivery of health in both positive and negative directions. As a result, there was a growing feeling that medical treatment should be made accountable and this led to doctors and dentists becoming subject to the process of law. Patients have become more aware of their right to compensation and as a consequence doctors and dentists should be knowledgeable about the laws that govern them.

Oral cancer refers to the malignancies that occur in the oral cavity, lip and pharynx with 90% of oral cancers being squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC). OSCC has the highest mortality ratio compared to other carcinomas. Although oral cavity is easily accessible, most oral cancers are detected at a later stage leading to lower survival rates.

Desmoplastic fibroma (DF) is a benign intra-osseous neoplasm, that is, recognized as the intra-osseous counterpart of soft tissue fibromatosis in both gnathic and extra-gnathic sites. It has a propensity for locally aggressive behavior and local recurrence. An occurrence of intra-osseous lesion other than that of odontogenic origin is rare in the jaws.

Loricrin - an overview.

J Oral Maxillofac Pathol

June 2015

Loricrin is a terminally differentiating structural protein comprising more than 70% of the cornified envelope. It contributes to the protective barrier function of the stratum corneum. In vivo, loricrin is expressed inall mammalian stratified epithelia with the highest levels of expression in humid tissues such as newborn epidermis, the epithelia of oral and anal mucosa, esophagus, foreskin, vagina and the epidermal parts of sweat ducts.
