Efficient catalysts for soot oxidation are critical for mitigating environmental pollution. In this study, CoMnO spinel catalysts were synthesised using reverse co-precipitation and co-precipitation methods to evaluate their performance in soot oxidation and kinetic behaviour. All samples exhibited a tetragonal phase (XRD) and spherical morphology with rough surfaces (SEM).

Ocular toxoplasmosis is the leading cause of infectious retinochoroiditis in both adults and children. It is caused by the obligate intracellular parasite, Toxoplasma gondii. It is a common cause of posterior uveitis and focal retinitis, typically seen in immunocompetent individuals as a primary infection or in immunocompromised individuals as reactivation of latent infection.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the prevalence of diabetic macular edema (DME) in type 2 diabetic patients with and without diabetic nephropathy (DN) by using optical coherence tomography (OCT).
  • Conducted over a year at Saveetha Medical College, the study included 120 patients—60 without nephropathy and 60 with nephropathy—assessing various health metrics, including blood sugar levels and kidney function.
  • Results indicated that a significantly higher percentage of patients in the nephropathy group had both a longer duration of diabetes and poorer HbA1c levels, with only 1.7% of patients without nephropathy developing DME compared to higher rates in the nephropathy group.

Introduction Diabetic macular edema (DME) is the most common and vision-threatening complication in diabetic patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR), especially in those with Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a reliable tool most commonly used for assessing macular morphology and provides quantitative information on the macula. OCT also examines the outer retinal layers, which can predict visual outcomes.

In this work, we have investigated high temperature dielectric properties and room temperature optical properties on rare earth ion based orthorhombic GdCuTiO(GCTO). Optical properties like reflectance and band gap were determined from ultra-violet visible (UV-Vis) diffuse reflectance spectroscopy technique and photoluminescence (PL) spectrum. The compound exhibited substantial optical absorption and emission in the visible region.

Bone marrow (BM) continues to be the preferred source of stem cells in allogenic transplantation for nonmalignant disorders. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)-primed BM is associated with low rates of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) and allows reduced collection volumes while ensuring speedy engraftment. However, variability in BM harvest quality is a concern.

Air pollution has become the most important environmental and human health threat as it is accounting for about 7 million deaths across the globe every year. Particulate matter (PM) derived from the combustion of fossil fuels, biomass, and other agricultural residues pollutes the atmospheric air which affects the quality of the environment and poses a great threat to human health. Ecological imbalance, climatic variation, and cardiovascular and respiratory problems among humans are significant extortions due to PM pollution.

The use of plant extracts in the green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles is one of the simplest, most practical, economical, and ecologically friendly methods for avoiding the use of toxic chemicals. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized, employing a high-efficiency, non- toxic, cost-effective, green, and simple technique that included the use of root extract (SOR) as a capping agent compared to synthetic nanoparticles. The use of can be seen in traditional medicines for treating diabetes, obesity, rheumatism, gonorrhea, asthma, and hyperglycemia.

Logistic growth of human population, exponential rate in agronomic industries and feeble waste management practices have resulted in the massive generation of organic wastes. Vermicomposting is one of the eco-biotechnological practices to efficiently transform them into stable and nutrient-rich organic manure with the synergetic actions of earthworms and soil microbiota. Vermicompost, a derivative product has the desirable physicochemical traits such as excellent porosity, buffering actions, aeration and water holding capacity.

Green Manganese Ferrite (GMF) and Chemical mediated Manganese Ferrite (CMF) were designed and prepared via in situ co-precipitation method and their adsorption potential was compared using the model dye, Metanil Yellow (MY). Previously, an extract of aquatic macrophyte and metal chloride were employed for the development of ecofriendly GMF. Alternatively, CMF has been synthesized through chemical co-precipitation from metal chloride precursors.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study compares the effectiveness of Cartilage and Temporalis Fascia as graft materials for Type 1 Tympanoplasty in patients with Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM), focusing on hearing improvement and graft success rates.
  • - Results showed that patients receiving Temporalis Fascia grafts had significantly better average air-bone gap closure post-surgery compared to those with Cartilage grafts, especially in varying sizes of perforations.
  • - Both graft materials have their advantages: Cartilage is durable and has a high graft uptake rate, while Temporalis Fascia is more accessible and provided better functional hearing outcomes, despite lower overall morphological graft success.

Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is characterized by either insufficient insulin production or the inability to take it up for the glycemic regulation in the human body. According to WHO reports, T2DM will be the seventh-largest syndrome resulting in mortality by 2030. To tackle this chronic metabolic disorder, the person with diabetes population depends on subcutaneous administration (Sub-Q) of insulin and certain oral hypoglycemic drugs.

The present work deals with the preparation of the novel sorbent, glutaraldehye crosslinked silica gel/chitosan-g-poly(butyl acrylate) (Cs-g-PBA/SG) nanocomposite by sol-gel method for removal of toxic chromium ion. Prepared nanosorbent was then characterized by FTIR, XRD, DLS, SEM, BET isotherm for its formation and suitability. Its sorption capacity and sorption isotherms were brought under batch mode to suit the optimal parameters viz.

Introduction: In recent years there has been a steep increase in the number of orthopedic patients for many reasons. One major reason is osteomyelitis, caused by pyrogenic bacteria, with progressive infection of the bone or bone marrow and surrounding tissues. So antibiotics must be introduced during bone implantation to avoid prolonged infection.

Unlabelled: Aspergillus flavus infects the human eye leading to keratitis. Extracellular proteins, the earliest proteins that come in contact with the host and virulence related exoproteins, were identified in the fungus isolated from infected cornea. Virulence of the corneal isolates was tested in the Galleria mellonella larvae model and those isolates showing higher virulence were taken for subsequent exoproteome analysis.

Biomaterials have been used increasingly in various fields, such as drug delivery, imaging, and tissue engineering. The main reason justifying the widespread use of biomaterials relies on its valuable and low-cost source of new drugs. Current research goals are focused on identifying more potent and specific compounds with antitumor, immunomodulatory, antihyperlipidemic, anticoagulant, and antiviral activities.

Bone, a typical inorganic-organic biocomposite, is made of approximately 70 wt% inorganic components, mainly hydroxyapatite (HAp,Ca(10)(PO(4))(6)(OH)(2)), and 30 wt% of organic matrix, mainly collagen I. Human organ failure caused by defects, injuries, or other types of damage is one of the most devastating and costly problems in human health care. Recently, tissue engineering has emerged as a promising approach for bone repair and reconstruction.

A series of quinoidal thiophene based dye molecules were designed and their optoelectronic properties were studied for dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) applications. The efficiency of the designed dye molecules was analyzed using various parameters such as the HOMO-LUMO energy gap, absorption spectra, light harvesting efficiency (LHE), exciton biding energy (Eb) and free energy change for electron injection (ΔG(inject)). The simulated absorption spectra of the quinoidal thiophene molecules show that the electron withdrawing group substituted molecules exhibit dual band characteristics.
