A patient in his 60s with a bioprosthetic aortic and mitral valve replacement presented with dyspnoea, tiredness and dizziness 2 years postoperatively. Transthoracic echocardiography showed mitral valve stenosis and increased pulmonary artery pressure suggesting bioprosthetic valve failure. Cardiac CT confirmed the diagnosis of bioprosthetic mitral valve thrombosis.

COVID-19 disease models have aided policymakers in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) with many critical decisions. Many challenges remain surrounding their use, from inappropriate model selection and adoption, inadequate and untimely reporting of evidence, to the lack of iterative stakeholder engagement in policy formulation and deliberation. These issues can contribute to the misuse of models and hinder effective policy implementation.

Women make up approximately 75% of the health workforce and yet their representation at higher levels of health leadership is limited. Untapped potential of women in health undermines the contribution they could make to effective leadership for health systems strengthening. Lived experiences of women leaders can help understand how to unlock this potential by identifying the challenges, highlighting enablers, and sharing successful strategies used to become effective health leaders.
