Purpose: To perform vertical bone augmentation on rat parietal bone by coating the inner surface of dense polytetrafluoroethylene (d-PTFE) domes with hydroxyapatite (HA) using Erbium Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Er:YAG) pulsed laser deposition in a rat model.
Methods: The d-PTFE plate surface, α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) coating, and HA coating were measured using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction to confirm the replacement of α-TCP with HA via high-pressure steam sterilization. The dome was glued to the center of the rat parietal bone and closed with periosteal and epithelial sutures.
Heat stress (HS) reduces dry-matter intake and causes negative energy balance (EB) in Holstein cattle, with consequent deterioration in milk production and wellness. Therefore, the effects of HS can be detected more directly from imbalances in EB than from the consequent changes in production or health traits. EB can be monitored by metabolism-related traits such as predicted EB (PEB), the fat-to-protein ratio (FPR), or β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) in milk.

Objectives: This study evaluated myocardial motion before and after MVP using two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2D-STE).
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) progressively impairs motor neurons, leading to muscle weakness and loss of voluntary muscle control. This study compared the effects of SOD1 mutation on masticatory and limb muscles from disease onset to death in ALS model mice. Notably, limb muscles begin to atrophy soon after ALS-like phenotype appear, whereas masticatory muscles maintain their volume and function in later stages.

Data included 9,646,606 test-day records of 576,555 Holstein cows in Japan from 2015 to 2019. Genetic parameters were estimated with a multiple-trait model in which the records among lactation stages and parities were treated as separate traits.

Dasatinib and quercetin senolytics (DQ) can alleviate several diseases by eliminating senescent cells. α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) is a widely used therapeutic approach for bone restoration but induces bone formation for a comparatively long time.

This PTFE tube was placed at the center of the skull, fixed with Super Bond, and augmented with CGs or β-TCP granules. Specimens with surrounding tissue were harvested at 4, 8, and 12 weeks postoperatively, and radiological and histological evaluations were performed.

The objective of the study was to provide PEEK with the ability to sustain the release of growth factors and the osteogenic differentiation of stem cells. The PEEK surface was sandblasted and modified with polydopamine (PDA).

Methods: In anesthetized Wistar-Kyoto rats, baroreflex-mediated changes in sympathetic nerve activity (SNA), arterial pressure (AP), central venous pressure (CVP), and aortic flow (AoF) were examined before and during the intravenous continuous administration (10 μg·kg-1·min-1) of vericiguat or sodium nitroprusside (n = 8 each). Systemic vascular resistance (SVR) was calculated as SVR = (AP-CVP) / AoF.
In dentistry, orthodontic root resorption is a long-lasting issue with no effective treatment strategy, and its mechanisms, especially those related to senescent cells, remain largely unknown. Here, we used an orthodontic intrusion tooth movement model with an L-loop in rats to demonstrate that mechanical stress-induced senescent cells aggravate apical root resorption, which was prevented by administering senolytics (a dasatinib and quercetin cocktail). Our results indicated that cementoblasts and periodontal ligament cells underwent cellular senescence (p21 or p16) and strongly expressed receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B (RANKL) from day three, subsequently inducing tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP)-positive odontoclasts and provoking apical root resorption.

In Goto-Kakizaki diabetic rats, we estimated the open-loop static characteristics of the carotid sinus baroreflex together with urine glucose excretion using repeated 11-min step input sequences. After the completion of the 2nd sequence, an SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin (10 mg kg) or vehicle solution was administered intravenously (n = 7 rats each).

However, there is a lack of suitable animal models to study this phenomenon in depth. This study compared the usability of three different types of loops, namely, vertical helical loop, box loop, and L loop, for preparing a rat model of orthodontic tooth movement with invasive forces.

Recently, stress-induced senescent cells have been reported to be involved in various inflammatory diseases. Senescent cell-eliminating drugs, termed "senolytics", can improve the symptoms of such diseases.

As mitigating sympathetic overactivity is of major clinical concern in the mechanisms of heart failure treatments, we examined the effects of modulation of glucose handling on baroreflex-mediated sympathetic nerve activity and arterial pressure regulations in rats with chronic myocardial infarction (n = 9). Repeated 11-min step input sequences were used for an open-loop analysis of the carotid sinus baroreflex.

Accentuated antagonism refers to a phenomenon in which the vagal effect on heart rate (HR) is augmented by background sympathetic tone. The dynamic aspect of accentuated antagonism remains to be elucidated during different levels of vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) intensity. We performed VNS on anesthetized rats ( = 8) according to a binary white noise signal with a switching interval of 500 ms at three different stimulation rates (low-intensity: 0-10 Hz, moderate-intensity: 0-20 Hz, and high-intensity: 0-40 Hz).

We examined urine excretion during primary acute sympathetic activation (PASA) in anesthetized Wistar-Kyoto rats. Since arterial pressure (AP) changes with sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) during PASA, urine excretion reflects a neurally mediated antidiuretic effect combined with an effect of pressure diuresis. We hypothesized that preventing AP changes under PASA would enable the direct estimation of the neurally mediated antidiuretic effect alone.

Nevertheless, little is known about the appearance and function of senescent cells, caused by the implantation of beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP)-used widely in dentistry and orthopedics for treating bone diseases. In this study, two varying sizes of β-TCP granules (<300 μm and 300-500 μm) were implanted, and using histological and immunofluorescent staining, appearances of senescent-like cells in critical-sized bone defects in the calvaria of Sprague Dawley rats were evaluated.
