[A Case of Pathological Complete Response after Nivolumab Therapy in Unresectable Advanced Gastric Cancer].

A 70-year-old man was admitted to a local hospital with epigastric pain and diagnosed with type-2 gastric cancer. Contrast-enhanced CT scan showed metastases in S3 and S8 of the liver, and the tumor was classified as type cT4aN2H1, cStage ⅣB. Nivolumab monotherapy was initiated after failure of treatment with S-1 plus oxaliplatin and ramucirumab.

The safety and feasibility of robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy: A multicenter retrospective assessment of 425 patients in Japan.

Background/purpose: The Japanese public health insurance system has recently covered robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD). This study aimed to review the results of RPD during the introductory period and elucidate its safety and feasibility in Japan.

Methods: Consecutive data of 425 patients who underwent RPD were retrospectively collected from 10 high-volume centers in Japan between April 2020 and September 2022.

Vosoritide, a C-type natriuretic peptide analog, is an emerging treatment for achondroplasia that functions by promoting endochondral ossification. Vosoritide was approved for the treatment of achondroplasia in Europe and the United States in 2021, and in Japan, the following year.

Background: Carbon fibers are high aspect ratio structures with diameters on the submicron scale. Vapor grown carbon fibers are contained within multi-walled carbon tubes, with VGCF™-H commonly applied as a conductive additive in lithium-ion batteries. However, several multi-walled carbon fibers, including MWNT-7, have been reported to induce lung carcinogenicity in rats.

Usefulness of blood biomarkers for predicting venous thromboembolism in Japanese patients with cancer.

Prospective studies on risk factors for the occurrence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in Asian patients with cancer are limited. Therefore, the present study assessed risk factors for VTE, including multiple blood biomarkers and risk scores consisting of several risk factors, in Japanese patients receiving anticancer drug therapy. In this single-center, prospective, observational study, 200 patients with six types of cancer were enrolled and followed for 1 year to observe the occurrence of symptomatic or asymptomatic VTE.

Effect of Shearing and Heat Milling Treatment Temperature on the Crystallinity, Thermal Properties, and Molecular Structure of Rice Starch.

Rice flour is produced by various methods for use in the food industry, but little is known about how the structure of starch is affected during rice flour production. In this study, the crystallinity, thermal properties, and structure of starch in rice flour were investigated after treatment with a shearing and heat milling machine (SHMM) at different temperatures (10-150 °C). Both the crystallinity and gelatinization enthalpy of starch showed an inverse relationship with the treatment temperature; rice flour treated with the SHMM at higher temperatures showed lower crystallinity and gelatinization enthalpy than that treated at lower temperatures.

Effect of shear and heat milling of starch on the properties of tapioca starch/cellulose nanofiber composites.

Thermoplastic starch was prepared from tapioca starch (TS) and thermo-mechanical modified TS (ModifiedTS) using glycerol as a plasticizer and cellulose nanofiber (CNF) as a reinforcement. The ModifiedTS was produced using shear-and-heat milling machining (SHMM), which effectively reduced starch crystallinity and transformed the granule shape without a chemical reaction. The modified starch with low crystallinity and numerous active hydrogen bonds clearly showed Vh crystal structure after blending with glycerol.

Blood orange consumption presents potential health benefits and may modulate epigenetic mechanisms such as microRNAs (miRNAs) expression. MiRNAs are non-coding RNAs responsible for post-transcriptional gene regulation, and these molecules can also be used as biomarkers in body fluids. This study was designed to investigate the effect of chronic blood orange juice (BOJ) intake on the inflammatory response and miRNA expression profile in plasma and blood cells in overweight women.

Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma Involving an Abundant Infiltration of T Follicular Helper Cells.

A 76-year-old man presented with skin plaque and splenic nodules, and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) with infiltration of T-cells was suspected based on the skin lesions. The disease showed indolent clinical behavior for three months, when systemic lymphadenopathy rapidly evolved. An inguinal lymph node biopsy revealed DLBCL with abundant infiltration of T follicular helper (TFH) cells.

Recently, allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation from human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-haploidentical donors using post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCY-haploPBSCT) has become available in clinical practice. However, the efficacy of PTCY in adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) is not fully established yet. In this study, we retrospectively examined data of seven patients who underwent PTCY-haploPBSCT.

We investigated the status of end-of-life discussions and associated factors and their effects on patients' quality of death and their families' mental health. Participants in this retrospective cross-sectional observational study were 119 bereaved family members.

Whereas approximately half of patients experience molecular relapse, after resuming with any TKI; the majority re-achieve a deep molecular response (DMR). It is unclear whether such patients who re-achieve a durable DMR can discontinue TKI safely again.

Large interindividual variations in the biological response to citrus flavanones have been observed, and this could be associated with high variations in their bioavailability. The aim of this study was to identify the main determinants underlying interindividual differences in citrus flavanone metabolism and excretion. In a randomized cross-over study, non-obese and obese volunteers, aged 19-40 years, ingested single doses of Pera and Moro orange juices, and urine was collected for 24 h.

Anesthetic management of pulmonary artery replacement for idiopathic dilatation of the pulmonary artery with a Kommerell's diverticulum: a case report.

Background: Idiopathic dilatation of the pulmonary artery (IDPA) is a rare condition in which the pulmonary artery dilates without an obvious cause. Pulmonary artery replacement is indicated in severe cases to prevent serious complications.

Case Presentation: A 59-year-old man was diagnosed with an IDPA of 64 mm and Kommerell's diverticulum (aortic aneurysm located at the aberrant left subclavian artery).

Micro-liquid enclosure array and its semi-automated assembling system for x-ray free-electron laser diffractive imaging of samples in solution.

We developed micro-liquid enclosure arrays (MLEAs) for holding solution samples in coherent diffractive imaging (CDI) using x-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs). Hundreds of fully isolated micro-liquid enclosures are arranged in a single MLEA chip for efficient measurement, where each enclosure is destroyed after exposure to a single XFEL pulse. A semi-automated MLEA assembling system was also developed to enclose solution samples into MLEAs efficiently at high precision.

Background: The application of pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) current to peripheral nerves with conditions related to neuropathic pain is considered to be clinically safe, while it has been reported that the destruction of mitochondria after PRF application was observed by electron microscopy. If it occurs reproducibly, PRF applied to peripheral nerves should provoke neurolysis because the impairment of mitochondria is known as the primary cause of apoptosis.

Methods: Human monocytic cells THP-1 loaded with 100 nM tetramethylrhodamine methyl ester (TMRM), a fluorescent dye that proves the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), were exposed to the electric field of continuous radiofrequency (CRF) or PRF current.

Evaluation of changes in oral health-related quality of life over time in patients with Sjögren's syndrome.

Objectives: To assess oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and changes in OHRQoL in 3 years of patients with Sjögren's symdrome (SS).

Methods: Thirty-five SS patients and 23 non-SS individuals were enrolled. OHRQoL were quantitatively evaluated using the shortened Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14).

We report the case of a 56-year-old man with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) who developed dasatinib-induced interstitial lung disease (ILD) 7 years after starting dasatinib, a BCR-ABL1 inhibitor. The patient presented with dyspnea. Chest imaging showed diffuse ground-glass opacities.
