  • Enhancing the wettability of medical implants is essential for better biocompatibility, and this study explores the use of ozone nanobubble water to improve titanium dental implants' surfaces.
  • Immersion in ozone nanobubble water for about 10 minutes changes implants from hydrophobic to superhydrophilic, maintaining this property for over a month, indicating effective surface alteration and cleaning.
  • The formation of nanoshells from ozone microbubbles contributes to the long-lasting hydrophilicity of the implants, suggesting that this method could be a promising approach for improving the compatibility of dental implants.

Staged angioplasty (SAP) is used as an alternative to preventing cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome (CHS) after carotid artery stenting (CAS), particularly among patients with compromised cerebral haemodynamics. Although SAP is presumed to prevent CHS by gradually restoring cerebral blood flow (CBF), few studies have examined haemodynamic changes, and none have evaluated CBF during the chronic phase of SAP. In the present study, in addition to the clinical outcome of SAP, we measured both resting CBF and cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) throughout all stages of SAP, including the chronic phase, using quantitative N-isopropyl-p-[I-123] iodoamphetamine (I-IMP) single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and evaluated the effects of SAP on cerebral haemodynamics.

Spreading depolarization (SD) develops after stroke and traumatic brain injury and may contribute to secondary brain damage. These diseases are often accompanied by intracranial hypertension, but little is known about the effects of intracranial pressure (ICP) on SD. Here, we study the effect of increased ICP on hemodynamic and metabolic response to SD in rats.

  • Prophylactic surgery for impending fractures in patients with long-bone metastasis is linked to better survival rates compared to those with complete fractures, especially in those deemed intermediate-to-high risk.
  • A study of 121 patients revealed lower one-year mortality rates for those with impending fractures, alongside higher rates of home discharge and improved post-operative mobility.
  • Results indicated that the type of surgical intervention (nailing vs. hemiarthroplasty) did not significantly affect survival rates among patients with impending fractures.

Lignin is an aromatic polymer that constitutes plant cell walls. The polymerization of lignin proceeds by radical coupling, and this process requires radicalization of the phenolic end of lignin by enzymes. However, due to the steric hindrance between enzymes, lignin, and polysaccharides, the direct oxidation of the phenolic end of lignin by the enzyme would be difficult, and the details of the growth of lignin are still unknown.

Current differentiation protocols for human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) produce heterogeneous cardiomyocytes (CMs). Although chamber-specific CM selection using cell surface antigens enhances biomedical applications, a cell surface marker that accurately distinguishes between hiPSC-derived atrial CMs (ACMs) and ventricular CMs (VCMs) has not yet been identified. We have developed an approach for obtaining functional hiPSC-ACMs and -VCMs based on CD151 expression.

Matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7) has been shown to play an important role in pathophysiological processes such as cancer and fibrosis. We previously discovered selective MMP-7 inhibitors by molecular hybridization and structure-based drug design. However, the systemic clearance (CL) of the biologically active lead compound was very high.

Background: Comprehensive genomic analysis has shown that small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA) has different genomic profiles from gastric and colorectal cancers. Hence, it is essential to establish chemotherapeutic regimens based on SBA characteristics. The expression of programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) and programmed cell death-ligand 2 (PD-L2) in SBA is not fully understood.

Engineered cardiac tissue (ECT) using human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes is a promising tool for modeling heart disease. However, tissue immaturity makes robust disease modeling difficult. Here, we established a method for modeling hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) malignant (MYH7 R719Q) and nonmalignant (MYBPC3 G115) pathogenic sarcomere gene mutations by accelerating ECT maturation using an ERRγ agonist, T112, and mechanical stretching.

The green hydrogen economy is expected to play a crucial role in carbon neutrality, but industrial-scale water electrolysis requires improvements in efficiency, operation costs, and capital costs before broad deployment. Electrolysis operates at a high current density and involves the substantial formation of gaseous products from the electrode surfaces to the electrolyte, which may lead to additional resistance and a resulting loss of efficiency. A detailed clarification of the bubble departure phenomena against the electrode surface and the surrounding electrolytes is needed to further control bubbles in a water electrolyzer.
