Intravitreal dexamethasone implant for recalcitrant cystoid macular edema secondary to retinitis pigmentosa: a pilot study.

Background: To determine the utility of the intravitreal dexamethasone implant as therapy for cystoid macular edema (CME) secondary to retinitis pigmentosa (RP) recalcitrant to carbonic anhydrase inhibitor therapy over 2 years as a pilot study.

Methods: This was a prospective case series. Patients who showed either an incomplete or no response to topical dorzolamide for at least 1 month and oral acetazolamide therapy for at least 15 days were recruited for the study with informed consent.

Recalcitrant fungal tunnel infection treated with intrastromal injection of voriconazole.

We are reporting a case of recalcitrant fungal tunnel infection treated with intrastromal injection of voriconazole. A 50-year-old woman underwent an uneventful phacoemulsification through a temporal corneal tunnel incision for age-related cataract in her right eye. One month post-surgery, she developed tunnel infection.

Photodynamic therapy following intravitreal bevacizumab in multifocal choroiditis.

Purpose: To report the use of intravitreal bevacizumab (avastin) followed by photodynamic therapy (PDT) in a case of choroidal neovascular membrane (CNVM) due to multifocal choroiditis.

Design: Interventional case report.

Methods: In the setting of institutional practice, a 40-year male patient with previously diagnosed multifocal choroiditis presented with reduced vision in his left eye.

Aspergillus-induced malignant glaucoma.

Purpose: To report a case of Aspergillus flavus-induced keratomycotic malignant glaucoma.

Methods: A 48-year-old woman presented with a severe corneal ulcer. She had received topical steroids for 10 days before presentation.

Anterior chamber exudative mass due to Scedosporium apiospermum in an immunocompetent individual.

Endogenous intraocular infection of fungal etiology is extremely rare in an immunocompetent individual. Usually, an antecedent history of trauma, surgery, intravenous drug abuse or an immunocompromized state can be elicited. Scedosporium apiospermum is a known cause of keratomycosis after traumatic implantation and can cause fatal disseminated infection in immunocompromized patients.

Phacoemulsification and pars plana vitrectomy: a combined procedure.

Aim: To describe the results of a combined procedure including phacoemulsification, insertion of posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL) and pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) in eyes with vitreoretinal pathology and coexisting significant cataract.

Design: Retrospective, consecutive, noncomparative, interventional case series.

Materials And Methods: Medical records of patients who had undergone phacoemulsification, PPV and PCIOL implantation as a combined procedure between January 2000 and December 2004 were retrospectively reviewed.
