The integrative multi-kingdom interaction of the gut microbiome in ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) remains underinvestigated. Here, we perform shotgun metagenomic sequencing of feces from patients with UC and CD, and healthy controls in the Japanese 4D cohort, profiling bacterial taxa, gene functions, and antibacterial genes, bacteriophages, and fungi. External metagenomic datasets from the US, Spain, the Netherlands, and China were analyzed to validate our multi-biome findings.

While sequencing approaches determine the relative abundances of taxa and genes, they do not provide information on their absolute abundances. Here, we developed a machine-learning approach to predict fecal microbial loads (microbial cells per gram) solely from relative abundance data.

The main challenge is proper selection of suitable patients for CC. Coherence analysis is a method for evaluating brain connectivity, but the correlation between preoperative coherence and surgical outcomes has not previously been clarified.

In epilepsy surgery, indications for and the role of AWC have not been established because evaluation with intracranial electrodes is considered the gold standard. We report herein our case series of patients who underwent AWC in epilepsy surgery and propose the scenarios for and roles of AWC.

Lesionectomy alone, preserving the hippocampus by an appropriate surgical approach, might offer good seizure outcomes while maintaining neurocognitive function.

Characteristic peaks were observed in the presence of glucose, and MS/MS revealed Asr-specific fragments. The amino acid sequences of the fragments suggested sequence-specific proteolysis.

Here, we report a subgroup analysis of Asian patients enrolled in DESTINY-Breast03.

Although the cause of interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS) remains unknown, autoimmune involvement has been strongly suggested to be a contributing factor. To elucidate the pathophysiology of IC/PBS, we characterized the experimental autoimmune cystitis (EAC) in rats. Adult female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the EAC and control groups.

Theoretically, disconnective epilepsy surgery should decrease coherence between corresponding areas. The study aimed to evaluate postoperative changes in interhemispheric coherence values after corpus callosotomy (CC).

Breakthroughs in omics methodologies and the power of bioinformatics have created an excellent opportunity to apply technological advances to clinical needs, for instance in the development of precision biomarkers for personalised medicine. Via omics technologies, biological processes from the genes to circulating protein, as well as the microbiome - including bacteria, viruses and fungi, can be investigated on an axis.

This study estimated the incidence of moderate-to-severe drug-induced interstitial lung disease (ILD) among patients with breast cancer in Japan. We analyzed a large nationwide database of patients with breast cancer treated with anticancer therapies between 2009 and 2022. ILD was identified using diagnostic codes and treatment records.

This study aimed to evaluate the short-term changes in MFR in patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). In addition, as a reference, we showed the changes in MFR in the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and optimal medical therapy (OMT) patient groups.

However, it is not always clear how much each omics data type contributes to our understanding and whether they are concordant with each other. Here, we map the molecular response of a synthetic community of 32 human gut bacteria to three non-antibiotic drugs by using five omics layers (16S rRNA gene profiling, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, metaproteomics and metabolomics).

Where these potential conflicts occur and which consumers are responsible is poorly understood. By combining conservation priority (CP) maps with agricultural trade data, we estimate current potential conservation risk hotspots driven by 197 countries across 48 agricultural products.

In this biopsy-controlled, prospective, observational study, we characterized the liver and plasma lipidomes in patients with early ALD.
Methods: We performed mass spectrometry-based lipidomics of paired liver and plasma samples from 315 patients with ALD and of plasma from 51 matched healthy controls.
Spinal cord ischemia is a rare but catastrophic complication of elective endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. We report a case of delayed spinal cord ischemia after the elective endovascular repair of an infrarenal aortic aneurysm in a patient who previously underwent lumboperitoneal shunting. This case demonstrates that spinal cord ischemia could cause the inability to control spinal cord pressure and that patients who undergo endovascular aortic repair with lumboperitoneal shunting may be more vulnerable to spinal cord ischemia.

However, there are only a few medicines that are of pharmaceutical grade and reliably effective for IC/BPS symptoms.
