NRG1 is a trophic factor that contains an epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domain that signals by stimulating ERBB receptor tyrosine kinases and the cytoplasmic domain. NRG1 has been determined to be involved in frequent gene fusions with other partners in several malignancies and has a role in carcinogenesis through the NRG1 EGF-like domain and its cognitive receptor ERBBs.

Importance: The Assessment of Quality of Activities (A-QOA) is an observation-based tool for assessing the strength of engagement in an activity by the person performing it in a natural context. By quantifying the quality of engagement, the A-QOA can help occupational therapy practitioners be better able to select meaningful activities and more clearly understand the effectiveness of various choices.

Suppurative necrotizing bronchopneumonia caused by Nocardia cyriacigeorgica infection in a stranded striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) in Japan.

On a coastline in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan, a wild subadult female striped dolphin was found dead. Necropsy revealed poor nutritional status and bilateral pneumonia, which was histologically diagnosed as severe suppurative necrotizing bronchopneumonia. Special staining detected numerous intralesional filamentous, branching bacteria, which was identified as Nocardia cyriacigeorgica by sequencing of 16S ribosomal RNA and gyrB genes.

Effect of therapeutic plasma exchange on phenytoin plasma concentration in patients receiving intravenous fosphenytoin therapy.

We report for patients with encephalitis treated with plasma exchange (PE) and fosphenytoin. In patient 1, phenytoin levels decreased on the maintenance dose, and the phenytoin concentration was <10 μg/mL on day 12 of administration. In patient 2, the phenytoin levels was <10 μg/mL on day 4.

Recovery from prolonged thrombocytopenia in patients with TAFRO syndrome: case series and literature review.

TAFRO syndrome is a newly proposed disease that is characterised by thrombocytopenia, anasarca, fever, reticulin fibrosis (or renal dysfunction), and organomegaly. Generally, high doses of corticosteroids are recommended for the initial treatment of TAFRO syndrome; however, some patients experience prolonged refractory thrombocytopenia after initiating such therapies. If corticosteroid treatment alone is ineffective, additional immunosuppressive therapies such as cyclosporine A are recommended.
