Noise-Induced Hearing Loss.

Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is the second most common cause of sensorineural hearing loss, after age-related hearing loss, and affects approximately 5% of the world's population. NIHL is associated with substantial physical, mental, social, and economic impacts at the patient and societal levels. Stress and social isolation in patients' workplace and personal lives contribute to quality-of-life decrements which may often go undetected.

Associations of Tinnitus Incidence with Use of Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha Inhibitors among Patients with Autoimmune Conditions.

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα) may promote neuroinflammation prompting tinnitus. This retrospective cohort study evaluated whether anti-TNFα therapy influences incident tinnitus risk among adults with autoimmune disorders and no baseline tinnitus selected from a US electronic health records database (Eversana; 1 January 2010-27 January 2022). Patients with anti-TNFα had ≥90-day history pre-index (first autoimmune disorder diagnosis) and ≥180-day follow-up post-index.

Osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis - a maxillofacial perspective.

The OOKP (osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis) is the treatment of choice for conditions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome, ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, trachoma, multiple failed grafts and chemical burns which are not amenable to penetrating keratoplasty. The OOKP is an autograft which replaces the cornea with a polymethacrylate cylinder mounted on a tooth-bone complex. The aim of this paper was to retrospectively analyze the records in 26 patients undergoing OOKP surgery between 2007 and 2011.

Subankylotic ostectomy for release of TMJ ankylosis using the transmasseteric anterior parotid approach.

Twelve patients with temporomandibular joint ankylosis (5 bilateral and 7 unilateral) with preoperative maximal mouth opening ranging from 0 to 11 mm (mean, 2.25 [SD, 3.19] mm) were treated with a subankylotic ostectomy.

Transmasseteric anterior parotid approach for condylar fractures: experience of 129 cases.

We have evaluated the transmasseteric anterior parotid (TMAP) approach in the treatment of 163 condylar fractures in 129 patients. Ninety-five patients presented with unilateral, and 34 with bilateral, fractures. The inclusion criteria were patient's choice for open reduction and internal fixation, displaced unilateral condylar fractures with occlusal derangement, and displaced bilateral condylar fractures with anterior open bite.

Intraosseous infantile myofibroma of the mandible.

The myofibroma, especially the intraosseous variety, is an uncommon benign tumor that occurs primarily in children younger than 3 years of age. Since 1966, less than 40 cases of solitary myofibromas of the mandible have been reported in the literature. Myofibroblasts and spindle cells are predominantly found in this benign lesion.
