The objective of this study is to compare retention capacity of mandibular implant-supported overdenture with all zirconia, zirconia-PEEK, and all PEEK telescopic attachments. Sixty acrylic resin models of mandible were used. Telescopic attachment system was made up of all zirconia, all PEEK, and zirconia-PEEK.

This study's purpose was to define the "true" host status of patients with orthopedic infection using serologic markers to quantify the competence of their immune system while actively infected. : Retrospective chart review identified patients at a single-surgeon practice who were diagnosed with orthopedic infection between September 2013 and March 2020 and had immunological laboratory results.

Background: Hip fractures are a common condition associated with high morbidity and mortality. In this study, we assess (1) yearly incidences, (2) demographic factors, (3) postoperative outcomes, (4) primary diagnoses, and (5) primary procedures.

Materials And Methods: The National Inpatient Sample was queried for patients admitted with hip fractures from 2009 to 2016 (n = 2 761 850).

Acute Kidney Injury after Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Clinical Review.

Introduction: Patients who develop acute kidney injury (AKI) have an increased risk for progression to chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease, and increased mortality. The outcomes of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients who develop AKI have remained controversial. The purpose of this review was to summarize and identify the current literature focused on 1) major risk factors, 2) short-term outcomes, and 3) costs associated with the development of perioperative AKI after TKA.

Decline in allogeneic blood transfusion usage in total hip arthroplasty patients: National Inpatient Sample 2009 to 2013.

Introduction: Although total hip arthroplasty (THA) is an effective treatment for end-stage arthritis, it is also associated with substantial blood loss that may require allogeneic blood transfusion. However, these transfusions may increase the risk of certain complications. The purpose of our study is to evaluate: (i) the incidence/trends of allogeneic blood transfusion; (ii) the associated risk factors and adverse events; and (iii) the discharge disposition, length of stay (LOS), and costs for these patients between 2009 and 2013.

Does Addition of Adductor Canal Blockade to Multimodal Periarticular Analgesia Improve Discharge Status, Pain Levels, Opioid Use, and Length of Stay after Total Knee Arthroplasty?

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can be associated with substantial postoperative pain that may affect satisfaction and return to function. Various forms of pain control have been used; however, multimodal periarticular analgesia (MPA) and adductor canal block (ACB) have recently gained popularity. The purpose of this study was to compare (1) discharge status, (2) pain levels, (3) postoperative opioid consumption, and (4) length of stay (LOS) between TKA patients who received MPA only and those who received both MPA and ACB.

Progressive hemifacial atrophy: a review.

Background: Progressive Hemifacial Atrophy (PHA) is an acquired, typically unilateral, facial distortion with unknown etiology. The true incidence of this disorder has not been reported, but it is often regarded as a subtype of localized scleroderma. Historically, a debate existed whether PHA is a form of linear scleroderma, called morphea en coup de sabre (ECDS), or whether these conditions are inherently different processes or appear on a spectrum (; Adv Exp Med Biol 455:101-4, 1999; J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol 19:403-4, 2005).
