Groundwater fluoride contamination and its possible health implications in Indi taluk of Vijayapura District (Karnataka State), India.

Groundwater fluoride concentration and fluoride-related health problems were studied in twenty-two villages of Indi taluk of Vijayapura district, Karnataka, India. Present study (2015) was also used to compare groundwater fluoride concentration in same 22 villages with previous government report (2000). Groundwater fluoride concentrations of 62 bore wells of 22 villages were analyzed by using an ion-sensitive electrode.

Light microscopy of the hair: a simple tool to "untangle" hair disorders.

Light microscopy of the hair forms an important bedside clinical tool for the diagnosis of various disorders affecting the hair. Hair abnormalities can be seen in the primary diseases affecting the hair or as a secondary involvement of hair in diseases affecting the scalp. Hair abnormalities also form a part of various genodermatoses and syndromes.

Diffuse nonscarring alopecia of scalp: an indicator of early infantile scurvy?

An infant with diffuse nonscarring alopecia of scalp and radiologic features of scurvy responded dramatically to oral vitamin C therapy. The characteristic cutaneous manifestations of scurvy are usually not seen in infancy. The manifestations of initial stage of scurvy that are not related to collagen synthesis, as in the present case, should alert to the possibility of this potentially fatal condition.
