Comparison of three-dimensional heads-up system versus traditional microscopic system in medical education for vitreoretinal surgeries: a prospective study.

Background: To compare the value and efficiency of the three-dimensional (3D) heads-up surgical system and traditional microscopic (TM) system in teaching and learning vitreoretinal surgeries.

Methods: Twenty ophthalmologists and scrub nurses were recruited as teachers, and 45 junior ophthalmology residents and trainee doctors, trainee nurses, and medical students were recruited as observers. Each teacher and observer were assigned to both a 3D-assisted and TM-assisted vitreoretinal surgery and then asked to complete satisfaction questionnaires for both surgical systems at the end of each surgery.

Molecular mechanisms underlying the BIRC6-mediated regulation of apoptosis and autophagy.

Procaspase 9 is the initiator caspase for apoptosis, but how its levels and activities are maintained remains unclear. The gigantic Inhibitor-of-Apoptosis Protein BIRC6/BRUCE/Apollon inhibits both apoptosis and autophagy by promoting ubiquitylation of proapoptotic factors and the key autophagic protein LC3, respectively. Here we show that BIRC6 forms an anti-parallel U-shaped dimer with multiple previously unannotated domains, including a ubiquitin-like domain, and the proapoptotic factor Smac/DIABLO binds BIRC6 in the central cavity.

Clonal integration can promote the growth and spread of Alternanthera philoxeroides in cadmium-contaminated environments.

Clonal plants are able to support the growth of their ramets in stressful environments via clonal integration between the ramets. However, it remains unclear whether the developmental status of stressed ramets affects the role of clonal integration. Here, we explored the effects of clonal integration at both the ramet level and the whole clonal fragment level when the apical ramets (younger) and basal ramets (older) were subjected to different concentrations of cadmium contamination.

Clinical features of Cytomegalovirus retinitis in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and efficacy of the current therapy.

Background: Cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR) is the most common and sight-threatening opportunistic retinal infection in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and several controversies remain to be settled. We aimed to summarize the current evidence and clarify the clinical features and prognosis of CMVR in AIDS patients.

Methods: The databases PubMed, EMBASE, and Ovid from inception to April 2022 were searched to identify the relevant studies.

[Clinical and gastroscopic features of children with cyclic vomiting syndrome: an analysis of 63 cases].

Objectives: To study the clinical and gastroscopic features of children with cyclic vomiting syndrome.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the medical data of 63 children with cyclic vomiting syndrome who were hospitalized and followed up in Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, School of Clinical Medicine, Tsinghua University from August 2019 to March 2022.

Results: Among the 63 children, there were 30 boys and 33 girls, with a mean age of 6.

[Efficacy and Safety of Different Dosages of Decitabine in the Treatment of High-Risk Patients with Myelodysplastic Syndrome].

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients treated by different doses of decitabine (DAC) and its safety.

Methods: Thirty patients with high-risk MDS were all treated by demethylation drug DAC. According to the doses of DAC, 30 patients were divided into 10-day regimen [6 mg/(m·d)×10 d, 15 patients] group and 5-day regimen [15 mg/(m·d)×5 d, 15 patients] group.

Aurora A kinase is a cell cycle regulator that is dysregulated in several different malignancies. Nevertheless, its regulatory mechanisms are still not fully understood. Here, we report that ubiquitin specific peptidase 3 (USP3) promotes proliferation and metastasis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cells by mediating deubiquitination of Aurora A.

The Effect of Yijinjing on the Cognitive Function of Patients With Chronic Schizophrenia.

Patients with chronic schizophrenia present cognitive impairment, which affects their social function and prevents them from reintegrating into society. Yijinjing is a traditional Chinese aerobic exercise that has a putative psychosomatic effect on improving cognitive function. From January to May 2021, 40 patients with chronic schizophrenia were recruited and randomly divided into a control group and a Yijinjing group.

Circulating activated lymphocyte subsets as potential blood biomarkers of cancer progression.

The objective of this study was to predict the value of lymphocyte subsets in cancer progression. Peripheral blood was obtained from 327 untreated patients with cancer and 158 healthy volunteers. Levels of lymphocyte subsets were determined by flow cytometry.

Copigmentation evidence of oenin with phenolic compounds: A comparative study of spectrographic, thermodynamic and theoretical data.

The copigmentation effects of polyphenol with different structures vary greatly. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate possible interactions in red wine model solutions between oenin and three phenolic compounds: danshensu, caffeic acid and rosmarinic acid. Our results show that the copigmentation of rosmarinic acid is the strongest among the compounds tested.

Thyroid metastasis from non-small cell lung cancer.

Non-thyroid malignancies to the thyroid gland resulting from distant metastases are extremely rare, and such cases are rarely seen in clinical settings. The question of how a tumor metastasizes to the thyroid remains unanswered. Here we report a case of lung adenocarcinoma metastasizing to the thyroid gland.

[Efficacy and Safety of Apatinib in Treating Advanced Colorectal Cancer].

Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of apatinib in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer(CRC). Methods The clinical data of 16 CRC patients treated with apatinib after failure of prior lines of treatment were retrospectively analyzed in terms of objective response rate,disease control rate,progression-free survival,overall survival,adverse events,and prognostic factors. Results The efficacy was evaluable in 14 patients,among whom the objective response rate was 7.

[Study of macrophage polarization on pulmonary fibrosis and signaling pathway].

Macrophages are a group of immune cells with pluripotency and plasticity that can differentiate into different phenotypes under different microenvironments in vitro and in vivo. In the development of pulmonary fibrosis, there are alveolar macrophages and interstitial macrophages, which are polarized to different cell phenotypes at different stages of development. And their polarized phenotypes include M1 macrophages and M2 macrophages.

Vancomycin-assisted green synthesis of reduced graphene oxide for antimicrobial applications.

Chemical reduction of graphene oxide (GO) is a simple and inexpensive method for the large-scale production of graphene-based materials. A suitable reducing agent, especially a green reductant, is in high demand for the production of reduced GO (RGO). Vancomycin, a glycopeptide antibiotic used to treat a variety of Gram-positive bacterial infections, was used to chemically reduce GO at a weak alkaline pH.

Colorimetric study of malvidin-3-O-glucoside copigmented by phenolic compounds: The effect of molar ratio, temperature, pH, and ethanol content on color expression of red wine model solutions.

In the recent research, the copigmentations of malvidin-3-O-glucoside with eight types of phenolic copigments have been investigated. The influence of the pigment/copigment molar ratio, the reaction temperature, the pH and the ethanol content of solutions has been examined. The results showed that the copigmentation effect was dependent on not only the particular structures of the phenolic compounds but also the factors of the reaction systems.
