The impact of colorectal surgery on older adults' (≥65 years) health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is rarely reported. This prospective multi-institutional cohort study involving 217 participants investigated factors affecting older colorectal cancer (CRC) patients' HRQoL following surgery with the EORTC QLQ-C30 and the HADS. The trend of the global QoL and individual subscales show an overall dip in QoL from baseline to pre-discharge, before slowly rising until the 6-month mark.

Combined ganglioneuroma-schwannoma is an exceedingly rare tumor that has only been described in isolated case reports. We document a 64-year-old man with an incidentally discovered combined ganglioneuroma-schwannoma of the retroperitoneum that was intimately associated with sympathetic ganglia. We highlight the morphological and immunohistochemical findings of this rare tumor, and show evidence of its origin from sympathetic ganglia.

Incidence, characteristics, and risk factors of hypofibrinogenemia induced by generic tigecycline: a retrospective study.

Atomic engineering of the basal plane active sites in MoS holds great promise to boost the electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reactions (HER), yet the performance optimization and mechanism exploration are still not satisfactory. Herein, we proposed a dual-plasma engineering strategy to implant Ti and N heteroatoms into the basal plane of MoS supported by NiS nanorods on nickel foam (MSNF) for efficient electrocatalysis of HER. Trends of liver transplantation in Asia.

Liver transplantation (LT) in Asia started comparatively early in 1964, just 1 year after Starzl's trail-blazing first attempt. Despite the quick start, LT was slow to develop in this region. Limited access to universal healthcare, lack of public understanding and support as well as the absence of strong legislation, on a backdrop of a wide range of diverse social, religious, economic and cultural background are all contributory factors.

Case report: From palliative to potentially curative - the advent of immunotherapy providing hope to advanced gallbladder adenocarcinoma.

Introduction: Biliary tract cancers (BTC) are often diagnosed at an advanced stage where prognosis is poor and curative-intent surgery is infeasible. First-line cisplatin-gemcitabine chemotherapy for advanced gallbladder cancer has remained unchanged over more than a decade, but recent developments in immunotherapy such as durvalumab have highlighted promise as a combination treatment regime with current standard chemotherapy.

Methods: In this case description, we present a case of locally-advanced gallbladder adenocarcinoma involving the biliary confluence that was initially planned for an extended right hepatectomy after portal vein embolization.

Late-onset cytomegalovirus cholangiopathy in a renal transplant patient: Case report and review of the literature.

This case report highlights the investigation and treatment of a 70-year-old male with cytomegalovirus (CMV) cholangiopathy. The patient underwent a kidney transplant in 2016 and presented 3 years later with the atypical presentation of left shoulder pain associated with dilated biliary tree and mild transaminitis. Initial endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) showed diffuse stricture of the common bile duct, requiring stenting, and over the course of a year multiple stent changes were required to prevent cholestasis.

Robotic approach for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma: from Bismuth 1 to vascular resection.

Background: Implementation of minimally invasive surgical approaches for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) has been relatively slow compared to other indications. This is due to the complexity of the disease and the need of advanced skills for the reconstructive phase. The robot may contribute to close the gap between open and minimally invasive surgery in patients with Klastkin tumors.

Adaptive Resilient Neural Control of Uncertain Time-Delay Nonlinear CPSs with Full-State Constraints under Deception Attacks.

This paper focuses on the adaptive control problem of a class of uncertain time-delay nonlinear cyber-physical systems (CPSs) with both unknown time-varying deception attacks and full-state constraints. Since the sensors are disturbed by external deception attacks making the system state variables unknown, this paper first establishes a new backstepping control strategy based on compromised variables and uses dynamic surface techniques to solve the disadvantages of the huge computational effort of the backstepping technique, and then establishes attack compensators to mitigate the impact of unknown attack signals on the control performance. Second, the barrier Lyapunov function (BLF) is introduced to restrict the state variables.

Safely Implementing a Program of Pure Laparoscopic Donor Right Hepatectomy: The Experience From a Southeast Asian Center.

Unlabelled: Laparoscopic donor right hepatectomy (LDRH) is a technically challenging procedure. There is increasing evidence demonstrating the safety of LDRH in high-volume expert centers. We report our center's experience in implementing an LDRH program in a small- to medium-sized transplantation program.

Dynamic event-triggered controller design for nonlinear systems: Reinforcement learning strategy.

The current investigation aims at the optimal control problem for discrete-time nonstrict-feedback nonlinear systems by invoking the reinforcement learning-based backstepping technique and neural networks. The dynamic-event-triggered control strategy introduced in this paper can alleviate the communication frequency between the actuator and controller. Based on the reinforcement learning strategy, actor-critic neural networks are employed to implement the n-order backstepping framework.

Impact of donor age on recipient morbidity and mortality after living donor liver transplantation.

Background: Evidence for use of graft from older donors in living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) has been conflicting. This study aims to clarify the impact of donor age on recipient morbidity and mortality after adult LDLT.

Methods: A total of 90 live liver donors and recipients who underwent primary adult-to-adult LDLT were divided into three groups according to donor age: donors in 20s (D-20s) group, donors in 30s and 40s (D-30s and 40s) group and donors in 50s & 60s (D-50s and 60s) group.

Liver resection versus liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma within Milan criteria: a meta-analysis of 18,421 patients.

Background: Outcomes after liver resection (LR) and liver transplantation (LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are heterogenous and may vary by region, over time periods and disease burden. We aimed to compare overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) between LT versus LR for HCC within the Milan criteria.

Methods: Two authors independently searched Medline and Embase databases for studies comparing survival after LT and LR for patients with HCC meeting the Milan criteria.
