Ferroferric oxide (FeO)/C composites have received much attention as a result of converting electromagnetic waves to heat for harvesting efficient electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbing performance. However, the practical EMW absorbing of these absorbers is still greatly hindered by the unmatched impedance properties and limited EMW absorbing ability. Tuning the morphologies at nanoscale and assembling the nanoarchitecture construction are essential to address this issue.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major comorbidity exacerbating ischemic brain injury and impairing post-stroke recovery. Our previous study suggested that recombinant human fibroblast growth factor (rFGF) 21 might be a potent therapeutic targeting multiple aspects of pathophysiology in T2DM stroke. This study aims to evaluate the potential effects of rFGF21 on cerebrovascular remodeling after T2DM stroke.

Unlabelled: xtracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO) has emerged as a viable treatment in severe cases of acute respiratory distress syndrome, acute respiratory failure, and adult respiratory distress syndrome. However, thromboembolic events stemming from the use of ECMO devices results in significant morbidity and mortality rates; the inner surface of the ECMO tubing comes into contact with the blood and can readily initiate coagulation. In addition, the tubing needs to be continually replaced due to thromboses on the inner tube wall, which not only increases the risk of infection but also the economic burden.

Endometriosis(EMs) is a stubborn gynecological disease caused by persistent immune-inflammatory effects, and is known as "benign tumor" because of its similar characteristics to malignant tumors. National physician master Professor BAN Xiu-wen believes that the spread of damp-evil is the pathologic foundation for inflammatory response of ectopic endometrium; accumulation of blood stasis is the pathological product of continuous inflammatory attacks, and the combination of dampness and stasis is the main pathogenesis for refractory EMs. Modern researches have shown that immune-inflammatory effect is the key mechanism for development of EMs, and is closely related to cell autophagy, all of which have made it become the hot spots in research of the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of EMs.

Article Synopsis
  • Cervical cancer is a big problem for women in sub-Saharan Africa and can be deadly, especially for those with HIV.
  • Researchers studied 187 patients to see if combining chemotherapy with radiation helps them live longer compared to just using radiation.
  • The results showed that women who received chemoradiation had a better chance of surviving for two years, regardless of their HIV status, especially if they didn’t get a lot of radiation.

Purpose: In value-based health care delivery, radiation oncologists need to compare empiric costs of care delivery with advanced technologies, such as intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). We used time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) to compare the costs of delivering IMPT and IMRT in a case-matched pilot study of patients with newly diagnosed oropharyngeal (OPC) cancer.

Materials And Methods: We used clinicopathologic factors to match 25 patients with OPC who received IMPT in 2011-12 with 25 patients with OPC treated with IMRT in 2000-09.

Purpose: Proton beam therapy (PBT) is associated with less toxicity relative to conventional photon radiotherapy for head-and-neck cancer (HNC). Upfront delivery costs are greater, but PBT can provide superior long-term value by minimizing treatment-related complications. Cost-effectiveness models (CEMs) estimate the relative value of novel technologies (such as PBT) as compared with the established standard of care.
