Luteolin (3',4',5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone) has powerful anti-apoptotic and antioxidant properties. This study aimed to investigate the effects of luteolin on hyperglycemia-mediated apoptosis in the hippocampi of rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetic encephalopathy after injection into the tail veins, and the molecular mechanisms involved. Biochemistry and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated dUTP nick end labelling detection results showed that luteolin treatment (given twice daily for 15 days) significantly inhibited hyperglycemia-mediated apoptosis, decreased malondialdehyde levels and increased glutathione levels in the hippocampi of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.

This study was purposed to explore the relationship between the mRNA expression of telomere protection protein TIN2 and POT1 and the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The expression of TIN2 and POT1 genes at the mRNA levels were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR in 51 patients with MDS and 10 normal controls. The results showed that the mRNA expressions of TIN2 in RA/RARS/RCMD/MDS-U, RAEB-1 and RAEB-2 groups according to the World Health Organization criteria were significantly higher than that in the controls (P < 0.

Objective: To investigate mutations of KRAS gene and clinicopathological characteristics of colorectal carcinomas (CRC) in Chinese.
Methods: Tumor cells were collected by microdissection from paraffin-embedded tumor specimens and adjacent normal colon tissues from 167 CRC patients. Genomic DNA was extracted and mutations of KRAS gene (codons 12 and 13) were detected by scorpions amplification refractory mutation system (Scorpions ARMS).

Positron emission tomography (PET) is used to observe the cerebral function widely and is a good method to explore the mechanism of acupuncture treatment on the central nervous system. By using this method, we observed the cerebral function of 6 patients suffering from ischemic stroke after receiving EA treatment at Baihui(GV20) and right Qubin(GB7). The results were: (1) the glucose metabolism changed significantly on primary motor area (M1), premotor cortex (PMC), and superior parietal louble (LPs) bilaterally, as well as the Supplementary Motor Area (SMA) on the unaffected hemisphere right after the first EA treatment.

Experimental results demonstrated that the types of cellulose played an important role in the microstructure and morphologies of the cellulose/CaCO3 composites. The composites consisted of cellulose and pure phase CaCO3 (calcite).

Nanocomposites of cellulose/iron oxide have been successfully prepared by hydrothermal method using cellulose solution and Fe(NO3)3·9H2O at 180 °C. The cellulose solution was obtained by the dissolution of microcrystalline cellulose in NaOH/urea aqueous solution, which is a good system to dissolve cellulose and favors the synthesis of iron oxide without needing any template or other reagents. The phases, microstructure, and morphologies of nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectra (EDS).

This study aimed to investigate the distribution and drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria in patients who had hepatobiliary surgery for SAP during the past three years.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on the distribution, category and drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria in patients who had hepatobiliary surgery for SAP from 2008 to 2011.
Acute cerebrovascular disease (ACVD) is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, however, molecular markers to aid in its early detection are lacking. In this study, we examined the correlation between serum ischemia-modified albumin (IMA), a marker used to identify ischemic events in the heart, and blood lipids in patients with ACVD. Serum IMA levels were determined by enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay, and total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high‑density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) and triglyceride (TG) levels were determined biochemically in 62 patients with cerebral infarction (CI), 40 patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), 18 patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and 100 healthy individuals (controls).

As the major component of fibroin, the fibroin heavy chain is a considerably large protein comprising N-terminal and C-terminal hydrophilic domains and 12 highly repetitive Gly-Ala-rich regions flanked by internal hydrophilic blocks. Here, we show the crystal structure of the fibroin N-terminal domain (FibNT) at pH 4.

Objective: To investigate the work-related musculoskeletal disorders among automobile assembly workers, to discusses the related risk factors and their relationship.
Method: The selected 1508 automobile assembly workers from a north car manufacturing company were regarded as the study object. The hazard zone jobs checklist, Nordic musculoskeletal symptom questionnaire (NMQ) and pain questionnaire were used to perform the epidemiological cross-sectional and retrospective survey and study for the General status, awkward ergonomics factors and related influencing factors, and musculoskeletal disorders of workers.
Objective: To investigate the pregnancy complications, perinatal outcomes, and congenital abnormalities (CAs) that occurred in Beijing, China, when pregnant women became infected with the 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) (H1N1 pdm).
Methods: Pregnancy complications, perinatal outcomes, and CAs were compared among 3 groups of pregnant women. The 23 women in group 1 were confirmed to harbor viral RNA; the 23 in group 2 had serum levels of virus-specific antibodies against H1N1 pdm, meaning that they were suspected of being infected with the virus; and the 93 in group 3 had no detectable virus-specific antibodies.
Fabrication of biomass materials by a microwave-assisted method in ionic liquids allows the high value-added applications of biomass by combining three major green chemistry principles: using environmentally preferable solvents, using an environmentally friendly method, and making use of renewable biomass materials. Herein, we report a rapid and green microwave-assisted method for the synthesis of the cellulose/calcium silicate nanocomposites in ionic liquids and recycled ionic liquids. These calcium silicate nanoparticles or nanosheets as prepared were homogeneously dispersed in the cellulose matrix.

The characteristics of the deterministic Nagel-Schreckenberg model with traffic-light boundary conditions are investigated and elucidated in a mostly theoretically way. First, precise analytical results of the outflow are obtained for cases in which the duration of the red phase is longer than one step. Then, some results are found and studied for cases in which the red phase equals one step.
