A randomized controlled trial to study the effect of intratracheal and intravenous lignocaine on airway and hemodynamic response during emergence and extubation following general anesthesia.

Objective: Intratracheal (IT) and intravenous (IV) lignocaine suppress airway reflex and hemodynamic response during extubation, but studies regarding this are sparse. The primary aim was to compare the effect of IT and IV lignocaine on attenuation of airway reflex to endotracheal extubation and the secondary aim was to compare the hemodynamic responses to extubation, using lignocaine by the two different routes.

Methods: Seventy-five female patients with comparable age, body mass index, and American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status undergoing carcinoma breast surgery were randomized into three groups.

Implementation of clinical audit to improve adherence to guideline-recommended therapy in acute coronary syndrome.

Background: Despite global consensus on the management of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), implementation of strategies to improve adherence of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) remains sub-optimal, especially in developing countries. Thus, we aimed to assess the effect of clinical pharmacist-led clinical audit to improve the compliance of discharge prescriptions in patients admitted with ACS. It is a prospective clinical audit of ACS patients which was carried out for 12 months.

Use of Valproate in Women: An Audit of Prescriptions to 10,001 Psychiatry, Neurology, and Neurosurgery Outpatients.

Gestational exposure to valproate is associated with an unacceptably high risk of major congenital malformations, neurodevelopmental disorders, and other adverse outcomes. Prescription of valproate to reproductive-age women is therefore strongly discouraged in many parts of the world. To our knowledge, there is no pharmacoepidemiologic study of the prescription of valproate to women in a developing country.

A Bio-Psychosocial Framework for Chronic Daily Headaches: A Mixed Methods Study.

Chronic daily headaches (CDH) are primarily understood from a psychophysiological formulation. A broad biopsychosocial understanding, where there is equal importance given to biological, psychological and socio-cultural factors, is underexplored in headache. Socio-cultural factors, such as gender, socio-economic factors can perpetuate and worsen the condition.

Clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients admitted with acute heart failure: insights from a single-center heart failure registry in South India.

Background: The epidemiology of HF in India is largely unexplored. Current resources are based on a few hospital-based and a community-based registry from North India. Thus, we present the data from a single hospital-based registry in South India.

Our objective is to evaluate the impact of clinical audit on adherence to the Guideline-Directed Medical Therapy (GDMT) in patients admitted with acute heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (EF).

Methods: A prospective interventional study was conducted over a period of 12 months from June 2018 to May 2019 in all patients admitted with acute heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

Dapsone Hypersensitivity Syndrome (DHS): A Detrimental Effect of Dapsone? A Case Report.

Background: Dapsone is a sulfone derived drug used in the treatment of leprosy and several chronic inflammatory dermatological diseases. Dapsone Hypersensitivity Syndrome (DHS) is characterized by fever, hepatitis, generalized exfoliative dermatitis and lymphadenopathy. It is rare and potentially fatal.
