Introduction: The present study aimed to investigate the occurrence of micronuclei and the degenerative nuclear alterations indicative of apoptosis and necrosis in the exfoliated buccal and palatal mucosa cells of children and adolescents using orthodontic appliances made of self-curing acrylic resins.
Methods: The micronuclei and nuclear alterations were evaluated in a minimum of 2000 cells collected from the cheeks and palates of 30 patients of both sexes, aged between 6 and 12 years. The cell evaluations were performed before appliance installation and 15 to 21 days after installation.

- A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using secondary data from medical records, leading to the identification of 72 types of oral lesions, with mucoceles being the most prevalent (14.2%).
- The findings highlighted that age significantly influenced the occurrence of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions, with neoplastic cases more frequent in younger children (0-9 years) and non-neoplastic cases in older adolescents (10-19 years).

Objective: To characterize the oral health in adolescents in the cities of Recife and Feira de Santana, Northeast Brazil by assessment of personal hygiene and dental cavities and periodontal disease.
Method: Forty adolescents between ten and eighteen years old were assessed through an exploratory study run in Recife in 2005. In Feira de Santana, 971 adolescents (twelve years old) were examined through a cross section study in 2002.
