Background: General health perception as measured by self-rated health (SRH) is an individual's synthesis of personal overall health and has value in its own right. In addition, this subjective perspective has a unique predictive power of subsequent mortality and adds valuable information not captured by objective measures. We studied the relationship between SRH and subsequent mortality to demonstrate how simple self-ratings can enhance our understanding of health inequities.

Physiotherapists (PTs) in reablement are responsible for the supervision of support personnel, referred to as home trainers (HTs), who carry out training and initiatives. There is a lack of knowledge about the significance of physiotherapy supervision in reablement. The aim of this study was to explore the content of PTs' supervision of HTs in reablement teams.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: Reablement is a relatively new service targeting people with or at risk of functional decline. The approach is team based, and physiotherapists (PTs), occupational therapists, and nurses have the responsibility to guide and supervise the support personnel, referred to as home trainers (HTs). The aim of this study was to explore how the HTs follow up instructions and supervision by PTs in reablement.

In this study, we aimed to explore the use and predictors of use of home-based and out-of-home respite care services available to older home-dwelling persons with dementia, as reported by the family caregivers.
Method: A cross-sectional survey was administered to family caregivers ( = 430) in Northern Norway during April to November 2016.
Objectives: The Carers of Older People in Europe Index is a first-stage assessment tool to detect family caregivers in need of support. This instrument assesses caregivers' subjective perceptions of their caregiving circumstances. The present study examines the psychometric properties of the Norwegian version of the Carers of Older People in Europe Index among family caregivers for older persons with dementia living at home.

Recent changes in the organization of health care services in western societies have led to earlier hospital discharge and increased responsibility for rehabilitation in primary care. The aim of this study was to describe and increase knowledge on the variations in physiotherapy practice for people with acquired brain injury across health care levels in Norway.

Several instruments have been developed to monitor nursing students' subjective evaluation of clinical placement. The Clinical Learning Environment, Supervision and Nurse Teacher (CLES+T) evaluation scale measures five dimensions. The purpose of this study was to translate and test the construct validity and internal consistency of the evaluation scale within a Norwegian context.

Objective: The aims of this study of women with breast cancer were: to describe the levels of hope and compare hope scores for these patients with a sample from the general Norwegian population; to describe the relationship between hope and fatigue; and finally to evaluate the effect of demographic and clinical characteristics and fatigue on hope.
Method: A total of 160 Norwegian outpatients with cancer and fatigue (>2.5 on a 0-10 scale) completed the Herth Hope Index (HHI), Fatigue Questionnaire (FQ), and Self-administered Comorbidity Questionnaire (SCQ).
The aim was to predict nursing home admission (NHA) for home care patients after a 12-month follow-up study. This Nordic study is derived from the aged in home care (AdHOC) project conducted in 2001-2003 with patients at 11 sites in Europe. Background: Requesting nursing home placement can be a complicated decision for carers, causing feelings of failure, anxiety and guilt. After the necessity of nursing home care is determined, the names of the older people are put on waiting lists.
Aim: The aim of this study is to describe carers' and nurses' appraisals of workload in care of frail elderly awaiting nursing home (NH) placement.
Background: Carers' workload of care for frail elderly awaiting NH placement has been studied separately from that of nurses' workload. The literature neither addressed a comparison of carers' and nurses' appraisals of psychological and physical workloads nor the most strenuous factors common to the workloads of both nurses and carers in care of the same elderly person.
