Synthesis of Bovine Serum Albumin-Coated Magnetic Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes as a Delivery System for Mitoxantrone.

In this study, a bovine serum albumin (BSA)-coated magnetic single-walled carbon nanotube (mCNT) was synthesized using covalent functionalization. Mitoxantrone (MTO) was chosen as a model drug, and loading/release profiles of mCNTs were evaluated. To synthesize BSA-coated mCNT, 1-ethyl-3-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl) carbodiimide and -hydroxysuccinimide were used as cross-linking agents.

Effects of Rosmarinus officinalis extract on wound healing, colon anastomosis, and postoperative adhesion in colon anastomosis rats.

Background: Intraabdominal adhesions increase the incidence and length of surgical complications. Many anti-adhesive agents have been used for this purpose, but no definitive solution has yet been found. Studies on the prevention and reduction of anastomotic leakage, therefore, remain up to date.

The impact of rhubarb (Rheum Ribes L.) juice-based marinade on the quality characteristics and microbial safety of chicken breast fillets during refrigerated storage.

Acidic marinades are commonly used to improve the quality meat products. However, no study has been performed to determine the effects of rhubarb juice as a marinating liquid on the quality parameters of chicken breast fillets. The aim of the present study was to identify the bioactive compounds (organic acids, polyphenols, and volatiles) in the juice of rhubarb and to determine the effect of rhubarb juice as a marinade on the microbiological (total viable count, psychrotrophs, lactic acid bacteria, sulfate-reducing anaerobes, and yeast-molds) and physico-chemical properties (drip loss, cooking loss, water holding capacity, pH, color, malondialdehyde, total volatile base nitrogen, and texture profiles), sensory attributes, and microbial safety (Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella Typhimurium, and Listeria monocytogenes) of chicken breast fillets during a 15-day refrigerated storage.

Enhanced lithium-ion battery performance with a novel composite anode: S-doped graphene oxide, polypyrrole, and fumed silica.

In this work, a novel composite anode material was developed, utilizing S-doped graphene oxide (SGO), polypyrrole (PPy), and fumed silica to enhance the performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The chronoamperometric approach was used to produce SGO, while the chemical method was employed to synthesize PPy. A composite of SGO, PPy, and fumed silica was prepared as an anode for a half-cell, using two samples: one with a high PPy ratio (S1) and the other with a low PPy ratio (S2) and compared the results with bare sample (S0).

The effect of the challenges experienced by nurses during the pandemic on their intention to leave work: the mediating role of the performance.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, negative working conditions in the nursing profession have worsened, and nurses have experienced various challenges that have increased their intention to leave work. Findings on the role of nurse performance under such conditions are limited.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the role of performance in the effect of the challenges experienced by nurses during the pandemic on their intention to leave work.

Introducing the ELPIS scale: a novel tool for measuring emotional empathy toward cancer patients.

Empathy, defined as the ability to understand and share another person's feelings, is crucial in the healthcare setting, particularly for patients with cancer who face significant psychosocial challenges. We aimed to develop a novel tool, the Empathy, Life with Cancer, and Psychosocial Skills (ELPIS) Scale that prioritizes emotional and cognitive components in order to determine the reflection of the negative stigmatization of cancer in societies on individuals, excluding the behavioral and ethical dimensions of empathy. The study was conducted using a quantitative research design with a sample of first- and second-year medical students in Türkiye.

The molecular mechanism(s) responsible for this fate bias remain unclear. Here we report that linker histone regulates HSPC fate choice at the lymphoid versus myeloid bifurcation.

Detection of Thyroid Isthmus Agenesia during Diagnostic Lobectomy: A Case Report.

The thyroid gland is an endocrine organ comprising two lobes connected by an isthmus. Thyroid isthmus agenesia (TIA) is a rare anatomical anomaly, which has only been documented in a limited number of case reports. This report presents the case of a 49-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with intraoperative TIA during diagnostic thyroid lobectomy.

Entamoeba histolytica in Different Water Sources of Niğde Province of Turkey.

Purpose: This study was carried out to determine the presence of Entamoeba histolytica in water sources of Niğde province in Turkey, between June and November 2021.

Methods: A total of 90 water samples were taken from 15 different water sources (drinking water, well water, spring water, wastewater and dam water) every month and the presence of E. histolytica antigens in the samples was examined by ELISA.

Gender roles as predictive factors on labor pain: a cross-sectional study.

Labor is a complex, subjective experience, and all factors that influence pain should be considered to ensure a comprehensive evaluation. This study aimed to determine whether gender roles were predictive of labor pain. The study has a descriptive and cross-sectional design.

Purpose: To evaluate mesopic and photopic contrast sensitivity in patients with congenital red-green color vision deficiency regarding with and without glare conditions and to compare these findings with age- and gender-matched healthy controls with normal color vision.

Methods: Patients with congenital red-green color vision deficiency and age- and gender-matched healthy controls were included in this cross-sectional comparative study. Contrast sensitivity measurements were taken from all subjects in 4 different conditions; binocular mesopic-without glare, mesopic-with glare, photopic-without glare, photopic-with glare, and the results were compared.

Effect of pre-incisional and peritoneal local anesthetics administration on colon anastomosis and wound healing.

Background: Previous research has shown that levobupivacaine is as effective as bupivacaine but carries a lower risk of cardiac and central nervous system toxicity. This study explores whether levobupivacaine and bupivacaine are preferable for all patients, includ-ing those with comorbidities, particularly focusing on their effects on colonic anastomosis. The primary objective is to examine the influence of levobupivacaine and bupivacaine on colonic anastomosis.

Single-Walled (Magnetic) Carbon Nanotubes in a Pectin Matrix in the Design of an Allantoin Delivery System.

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) outperform other materials due to their high conductivity, large specific surface area, and chemical resistance. They have numerous biomedical applications, including the magnetization of the SWCNT (mSWCNT). The drug loading and release properties of see-through pectin hydrogels doped with SWCNTs and mSWCNTs were evaluated in this study.

The effect of ruminative thoughts on sexuality in obese women.

Objectives: Ruminative thoughts play a significant role in the pathogenesis of disorders such as anxiety and depression. This study was conducted to investigate the impact of ruminative thoughts on the sexual functions of obese and non-obese women.

Methods: This case-control study included individuals sexually active women aged 18 and above, and under 46 years, who applied to the university hospital's obesity clinic in 2021 and had not previously been diagnosed with the patient and/or their partner with organic and/or psychiatric diseases that could cause sexual dysfunction and/or being under treatment, as well as pregnancy.

Evaluation of Patients with COVID-19 Followed Up in Intensive Care Units in the Second Year of the Pandemic: A Multicenter Point Prevalence Study.

Therefore, pre-lithiation, a method of embedding extra lithium ions in the electrodes prior to cycling, is an effective approach to replenish the largely irreversible lithium loss during cycling and overcomes these challenges.
