Objectives: Empirical antibiotic use is common among hospitalized patients with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia because it is difficult to differentiate it from concurrent bacterial pneumonia. The aim of this study was to determine risk factors for concurrent bacterial community-acquired pneumonia (b-CAP) and the need for initial empirical antibiotic coverage in patients with pulmonary involvement caused by Severe acute respiratory syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.

Materials And Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted at a tertiary university hospital between March 2020 and April 2021.

Bladder cancer (BC) is one of the ten most common cancers worldwide, with a high recurrence rate and significant variation in clinical outcomes based on tumor grade and stage. This study aimed to investigate the gene expression profiles at different cancer stages to assess their potential prognostic value. RNA was extracted from paraffin-embedded BC tissues and the gene expression levels of CDC20 and CCNB1 were analyzed using qRT-PCR.

Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) continue to be the world's greatest cause of death. To evaluate heart function and diagnose coronary artery disease (CAD), myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) has become essential. Artificial intelligence (AI) methods have been incorporated into diagnostic methods such as MPI to improve patient outcomes in recent years.

Montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA) approved for the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis, is widely used, though real-world data on its application in asthma management remain limited. This registry-based study evaluated the use of montelukast in adult asthma patients, examining demographic and disease characteristics, asthma control status, asthma phenotypes, presence of atopy, and treatment regimens. Among 2053 patients analyzed, 61.

Objective: Juvenile SLE (jSLE) is an autoimmune disease characterised by the presence of high levels of autoantibodies, predominantly targeting nuclear antigens, resulting in a breakdown of self-tolerance. However, its pathogenesis is multifactorial and poorly understood. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-γ) as biomarkers for jSLE.

Objective: The limited predictive effect of genotype on familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) phenotype suggests that epigenetic factors and alternative mechanisms that may cause IL-1β release could contribute to phenotypic heterogeneity. The objective of this study was to examine the role of IL-1β levels and miR-21-5p, cathepsin B and pyrin levels, which were identified as potential factors causing IL-1β release through the use of bioinformatics tools, in the pathogenesis of FMF and their relationship with disease severity.

Materials And Methods: 50 paediatric patients with FMF and 40 healthy children were enrolled in this study.

: This study aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy and prognostic significance of staging laparoscopy (SL) compared to computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) in gastric cancer staging. We evaluated the ability of SL to detect occult peritoneal metastases and influence of SL on survival outcomes across cancer stages and treatment approaches. : In this retrospective cohort study, 95 patients with gastric cancer underwent preoperative assessment using CT, PET-CT, and SL between 2018 and 2024.

Purpose: Studies evaluating the long-term survival rate, patient satisfaction, and conversion to total hip arthroplasty (THA) are limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate satisfaction and hip survival at a minimum 10-year follow-up in patients following hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS).

Methods: A total of 164 patients underwent hip arthroscopy for FAIS between 2007 and 2012; of these, 76 (49 men and 27 women; mean age, 40.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), such as pembrolizumab, have revolutionized cancer treatment by enhancing the immune system's response to malignancies. However, these therapies are associated with immune-related adverse events (irAEs), including neuromuscular complications such as myasthenia gravis, myositis, and myocarditis. We describe two male patients, aged 67 and 68, with small cell and non-small cell lung cancers, who developed progressive neuromuscular symptoms, including ptosis, diplopia, and generalized weakness, after receiving pembrolizumab.

A sexually transmitted bacterium, Mycoplasma genitalium has varying rates of reported resistance to macrolide and some fluoroquinolone group antimicrobials recommended for the treatment of its infections. It is currently recommended that the treatment of these must be planned according to macrolide resistance status. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of macrolide resistance associated mutations (MRM) and fluoroquinolone resistance associated mutations (QRM) in patients infected with M.

Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) is a rare but serious prothrombotic adverse event following vaccination with adenovector-based COVID-19 vaccines. Laboratory findings indicate that anti-platelet factor 4 (PF4) immunoglobulin G antibodies are the causing factor for the onset of thromboembolic events in VITT. However, molecular mechanisms of cellular interactions, signaling pathways and involvement of different cell types in VITT antibody-mediated thrombosis are not fully understood.
