Background: The role of cytoreductive surgery for patients with recurrent or metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors (mGISTs) responding to imatinib (IM) has not yet been established. We carried out a retrospective analysis of the outcomes of patients with mGISTs in two Russian cancer centers. We compared two cohorts: treated (Group S) or not treated with surgery (Group NS) after a partial response (PR) or stable disease (SD) while on IM.

Preparative Biocatalytic Synthesis of α-Ketomethylselenobutyrate-A Putative Agent for Cancer Therapy.

Biomedical studies of the role of organic selenium compounds indicate that the amino acid derivative of L-selenomethionine, α-ketomethylselenobutyrate (KMSB), can be considered a potential anticancer therapeutic agent. It was noted that, in addition to a direct effect on redox signaling molecules, α-ketoacid metabolites of organoselenium compounds are able to change the status of histone acetylation and suppress the activity of histone deacetylases in cancer cells. However, the wide use of KMSB in biomedical research is hindered not only by its commercial unavailability, but also by the fact that there is no detailed information in the literature on possible methods for the synthesis of this compound.

[Landscape of KRAS, BRAF, and PIK3CA Mutations and Clinical Features of EBV-Associated and Microsatellite Unstable Gastric Cancer].

Personalization of gastric cancer (GC) treatment is an urgent problem because of the clinical heterogeneity and aggressive course of the disease. Four GC subtypes were isolated based on molecular characteristics by The Cancer Genome Atlas researchers in 2014: Epstein-Barr virus positive (EBV^(+)), microsatellite unstable (MSI), chromosomally unstable (CIN), and genomically stable (GS). There is no unified method to detect the CIN and GS subtypes today, while MSI and EBV status assessments are used routinely and are of great clinical importance.

The Correlation of Ten Immune Checkpoint Gene Expressions and Their Association with Gastric Cancer Development.

In the immunotherapy based on immune checkpoint inhibition (IC), additional ICs are being studied to increase its effectiveness. An almost unstudied feature is the possible co-expression of ICs, which can determine the therapeutic efficacy of their inhibition. For the selection of promising ICs, information on the association of their expression with cancer development may be essential.

In this regard, microRNAs (miRNAs) that influence immune checkpoint (IC) gene expression in tumor and T-cells and may be important regulators of immune cells are considered. Background: Ganglioneuromas are rare tumors derived from neural crest cells. Data on these tumors remain limited to case reports and single-institution case series.

Expression of Immune Checkpoints in Malignant Tumors: Therapy Targets and Biomarkers for the Gastric Cancer Prognosis.

To increase the effectiveness of anticancer therapy based on immune checkpoint (IC) inhibition, some ICs are being investigated in addition to those used in clinic. We reviewed data on the relationship between PD-L1, B7-H3, B7-H4, IDO1, Galectin-3 and -9, CEACAM1, CD155, Siglec-15 and ADAM17 expression with cancer development in complex with the results of clinical trials on their inhibition. Increased expression of the most studied ICs-PD-L1, B7-H3, and B7-H4-is associated with poor survival; their inhibition is clinically significant.

[Gastrointestinal stromal duodenal tumors: diagnostic mistakes and modern approaches to treatment].

Gastrointestinal stromal duodenal tumors are rare diseases of small intestine. Duodenal GISTs may be giant; these neoplasms can also simulate malignancies of other organs. These features result diagnostic and treatment mistakes.

Surgical and combined treatment of patients with duodenal stromal tumors.

Objective: To evaluate the immediate and long-term results of surgical and combined treatment of patients with duodenal stromal tumors.

Material And Methods: There were 10 patients with duodenal malignancies who have undergone distal pancreatectomy in the Blokhin National Medical Research Centre of Oncology for the period 2006-2018. Distal pancreatectomy for primary duodenal tumors was performed in 8 patients, 2 patients underwent surgery for external invasion of the duodenum.

Studying the Possibilities of Using 2-Halogen-Substituted Acetamides As Acyl Donors in Penicillin Acylase-Catalyzed Reactions.

The possibility of using amides of halogen-substituted acetic acids as acyl donors in penicillin acylase-catalyzed reactions has been investigated, and the ability of this group of compounds to inactivate enzymes in the course of the catalytic conversion has been established. The strongest inactivating effect was demonstrated by iodoacetamide and bromoacetamide. However, the negative contribution of this side activity can be minimized by decreasing the temperature, when the rate of acyl donor conversion by penicillin acylases is still high enough, but the impact of enzyme inactivation becomes less significant.

Material And Methods: For the period 2009-2016 fourteenth patients with retroperitoneal sarcoma underwent resection and repair of great vessels at the abdominal department of N.N.

Comparison of hypertabastic survival model with other unimodal hazard rate functions using a goodness-of-fit test.

We studied the problem of testing a hypothesized distribution in survival regression models when the data is right censored and survival times are influenced by covariates. A modified chi-squared type test, known as Nikulin-Rao-Robson statistic, is applied for the comparison of accelerated failure time models. This statistic is used to test the goodness-of-fit for hypertabastic survival model and four other unimodal hazard rate functions.

Wave kinetics of random fibre lasers.

Traditional wave kinetics describes the slow evolution of systems with many degrees of freedom to equilibrium via numerous weak non-linear interactions and fails for very important class of dissipative (active) optical systems with cyclic gain and losses, such as lasers with non-linear intracavity dynamics. Here we introduce a conceptually new class of cyclic wave systems, characterized by non-uniform double-scale dynamics with strong periodic changes of the energy spectrum and slow evolution from cycle to cycle to a statistically steady state. Taking a practically important example-random fibre laser-we show that a model describing such a system is close to integrable non-linear Schrödinger equation and needs a new formalism of wave kinetics, developed here.

[Combined operations by retroperitoneal liposarcomas].

Retrospective analysis of 228 patients with retroperitoneal liposarcoma, operated on in the Russian Oncology Center during 1971-2010, has been done. Of 223 performed operations, 124 were combined, i.e.

Exact goodness-of-fit tests for shape-scale families and type II censoring.

A survey of statistical methods for validation of shape-scale families of probability distributions from type II censored samples is given. We propose "integrated likelihood ratio tests" which are modifications of Zhang's tests from complete to type II censored data. We also give modifications of Cramér-von-Mises and Anderson-Darling tests using integration with respect to non-parametric estimators of the cumulative distribution function.

[Surgical treatment of relapsing metastatic stromal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract].

The study included 63 patients with relapsing metastatic stromal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract (surgery - 34, tyrosinkinase inhibitors - 29). Cytoreductive surgery is indicated in patients showing positive response to target therapy. The highest survival rates were reported in cases of surgical treatment received in conjunction with pre- and postoperative therapy with tyrosinkinase inhibitors.
