The aim was clinical evaluation of the efficacy of topical insulin eye drops in patients with refractory persistent epithelial defects (PEDs). This prospective non-randomized investigation was conducted to examine the efficacy of insulin eye drops in treating patients with PEDs that did not respond to conventional therapy. Methods: Medical records of patients aged <18 years at the time of referral to Contact Lens Clinic of Farabi Eye Hospital, because of inadequate spectacle-corrected visual acuity, rigid gas-permeable or soft contact lens intolerance, and ocular surface disease were reviewed. Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), best-corrected vision with the lens (CCVA), lens parameters, and comfortable daily wearing time (CDWT) were documented.
In plants dehydration imposed by salinity can invoke physical changes at the interface of the plasma membrane and cell wall. Changes in hydrostatic pressure activate ion channels and cause depolarization of the plasma membrane due to disturbance in ion transport. During the initial phases of salinity stress, the relatively high osmotic potential of the rhizosphere enforces the plant to use a diverse spectrum of strategies to optimize water and nutrient uptake.
