An efficient protocol was developed for the synthesis of π-extended isocoumarins and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons based on the oxidative coupling of aromatic carboxylic acids with internal alkynes catalyzed by (cyclopentadienyl)rhodium complexes. The coupling chemoselectivity strongly depends on whether Cp or the methylated Cp* ligands are used. The pentamethyl derivative [Cp*RhCl ] predominantly gives isocoumarins, while the non-methylated complex [CpRhI ] produces naphthalene derivatives.

The design of small organic molecules with a predictable and desirable DNA-binding mechanism is a topical research task for biomedicine application. Herein, we demonstrate an attractive supramolecular strategy for controlling the non-covalent ligand-DNA interaction by binding with cucurbituril as a synthetic receptor. With a combination of UV/vis, CD and NMR experiments, we demonstrate that the bis-styryl dye with two suitable binding sites can involve double stranded DNA and cucurbituril in the formation of the supramolecular triad.

This paper deals with the functionalization of nanocrystalline SnO₂ with Cu(II) complexes with organic ligands, aimed at the improvement of sensor selectivity towards gas molecules. For the synthesis of metalorganic/SnO₂ hybrid material complexes of Cu(II) with phthalocyanine, porphyrinines, bipyridine and azadithiacrown etherwere used. The analysis of gas sensor properties showed the possibility of increasing the sensitivity and selectivity of hybrid materials in H₂S detection due to the electron transfer from SnO₂ to an adsorbed organic molecule, which changes during the interaction between H₂S and Cu(II) ions.

We studied 15-crown-5 ether mono- and bis(styryl) derivatives of 2,2'-bipyridine ( and ) as a scaffold to construct photoresponsive complexes possessing metallodendrimer structure. The synthesis and optical properties of one dimensional (1D) Ca(2+)-containing and octahedral 3D Zn(2+)-containing complexes with crowned styryl derivatives of 2,2'-bipyridine are described. Bimetallic Ca(2+), Zn(2+)-containing complexes of and possess well-defined structures and particular optical characteristics.

The synthesis and the antitumor activity and fluorescent properties screening of novel bisphosphonate conjugates with cytotoxic 3,5-bis((hetero)arylidene)-4-piperidone residues were performed. The facile and rapid synthetic route was based on the aza-Michael addition of NH-3,5-bis((hetero)arylidene)-4-piperidones to tetraethyl ethylidenebisphosphonate. The synthesized compounds displayed high inhibitory properties towards Caov3, A549, PC3, and KB 3-1 human carcinoma cell lines.
