The SPARC tokamak is a high-field, Bt0 ∼12 T, medium-sized, R0 = 1.85 m, tokamak that is presently under construction in Devens, MA, led by Commonwealth Fusion Systems. It will be used to de-risk the high-field tokamak path to a fusion power plant and demonstrate the commercial viability of fusion energy.

Edge scanning reflectometry for density profile measurement on the SPARC tokamak.

Edge scanning reflectometry (ESRL) on the SPARC tokamak aims to measure the electron density profile from the far scrape-off layer to the top of the typical H-mode pedestal and provide real-time data for plasma control. ESRL uses a standard frequency-modulated continuous wave technique from 18 to 90 GHz. By implementing both the O-mode and left-hand-cutoff X-mode, it covers densities from ∼4 × 1018 to ∼4 × 1020 m-3 at B0 ∼12 T.

Anticancer and Chemosensitizing Effects of Menadione-Containing Peptide-Targeted Solid Lipid Nanoparticles.

Vitamin K derivatives such as menadione (MD) have been recognized as promising redox-modulating and chemosensitizing agents for anticancer therapy, however, their cellular activities in peptide-targeted nanocarriers have not been elucidated to date. This study provides the guidelines for developing MD-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) modified with extracellular matrix (ECM)-derived peptides. Relationships between RGD peptide concentration and changes in DLS characteristics as well as accumulation of SLN in cancer cells were revealed to adjust the peptide-lipid ratio.

We investigated factors related to preventive behaviors and fear of COVID-19: values and beliefs about threat to values because of COVID-19. In two studies, participants reported their own values and evaluated how COVID-19 may threaten values. They also reported their preventive behaviors (washing hands, wearing a facial mask, keeping social distance, and avoiding public places) and fear of COVID-19.

Mental Strategies in a P300-BCI: Visuomotor Transformation Is an Option.

Currently, P300-BCIs are mostly used for spelling tasks, where the number of commands is equal to the number of stimuli that evoke event-related potentials (ERPs). Increasing this number slows down the BCI operation because each stimulus has to be presented several times for better classification. Furthermore, P300 spellers typically do not utilize potentially useful imagery-based approaches, such as the motor imagery successfully practiced in motor rehabilitation.

Infra-Low Frequency Neurofeedback in Tension-Type Headache: A Cross-Over Sham-Controlled Study.

Primary headaches are highly prevalent and represent a major cause of disability in young adults. Neurofeedback is increasingly used in the treatment of chronic pain; however, there are few studies investigating its efficacy in patients with headaches. We report the results of a cross-over sham-controlled study on the efficacy of neurofeedback in the prophylactic treatment of tension-type headache (TTH).

Native Spider Silk-Based Antimicrobial Hydrogels for Biomedical Applications.

Novel antimicrobial natural polymeric hybrid hydrogels based on hyaluronic acid (HA) and spider silk (Ss) were prepared using the chemical crosslinking method. The effects of the component ratios on the hydrogel characteristics were observed parallel to the primary physicochemical characterization of the hydrogels with scanning electron microscopic imaging, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements, which confirmed the successful crosslinking, regular porous structure, exact composition, and hydrophilic properties of hyaluronic acid/spider silk-based hydrogels. Further characterizations of the hydrogels were performed with the swelling degree, enzymatic degradability, viscosity, conductivity, and shrinking ability tests.

Hybrid Spider Silk with Inorganic Nanomaterials.

High-performance functional biomaterials are becoming increasingly requested. Numerous natural and artificial polymers have already demonstrated their ability to serve as a basis for bio-composites. Spider silk offers a unique combination of desirable aspects such as biocompatibility, extraordinary mechanical properties, and tunable biodegradability, which are superior to those of most natural and engineered materials.

Multisensory mechanisms of body perception in somatoform disorders.

Objective: According to one of the hypotheses, somatoform disorders (SD) are related to disturbed perception of bodily signals. We suspect that the disturbances and abnormalities of multisensory integration dynamics may be an additional SD mechanism. The objective of the research was to investigate multisensory bodily illusion dynamics in SD patients.

Artificial hand illusions dynamics: Onset and fading of static rubber and virtual moving hand illusions.

The aim of this study was to investigate the temporal dynamics of two multisensory body illusions: a static rubber hand illusion (RHI) and a moving virtual hand illusion (VHI). We explored the onset and fading of these illusions. A sense of ownership questionnaire and proprioceptive drift were used for illusion estimation.

Automated SPE-based synthesis of 16α-[F]fluoroestradiol without HPLC purification step.

[F]fluoroestradiol ([F]FES) is well-established PET radiotracer for diagnosing and monitoring treatment of estrogen-positive breast cancer. The radiotracer is produced via one-pot two steps synthesis using cyclic sulfate precursor and is usually purified by semi-preparative HPLC. Here we suggested simple SPE purification procedure using OASIS WAX 3cc and Sep-Pak QMA light cartridges that afforded [F]FES in typically 15% RCY (corrected for decay) within 45 min formulated in 5% EtOH/saline.

Enterosorption as a method to decrease the systemic toxicity of cisplatin.

[The investigation of the safety, genetic stability and immunogenicity of live influenza vaccine for adults in vaccination of 3-6 years old children].

The study of the based on the A/Leningrad/134/17/57/(H2N2) attenuated adult live influenza vaccine (LIV) investigated features for immunization of the children, aged 3-6 years. During autumn, 1999, out of 256 children, aged 3-6 years, residents of the Leningrad region, who attended the kindergarten, 184 children were immunized with 1 or 2 doses of the live influenza vaccine, and 72 ones were given placebo. There were no any moderate or strong temperature reactions revealed after the inoculation.

[The immunoprophylaxis of influenza among elderly persons].

During three seasons at the period of 1992-1996 immunization of elderly persons, living in homes for old people, against influenza with inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV) was carried out. Altogether 856 persons were immunized intranasally, 581 persons constituting the control group. For comparison, 4,825 healthy young adults aged 18-24 years were immunized under similar conditions.

[The role of parents in the psychological adjustment of children with cancer].

The behavior of parents may have a decisive impact on the child's adjustment to treatment. Their positive attitudes have a calming effect, support the patient's emotionally and overcome problems and bear sufferings involved in the treatment. Conversely, negative attitude may ruin the adjustment and provoke pessimism, lack of cooperation and even aggressiveness.

[Psychologic adjustment to therapy in children with cancer].

Peculiarities of adjustment of pediatric cancer patients and their perception of the disease were studied in a group of 29 including 12 cases of hematooncological diseases and 17 cases of different solid tumors. Projective psychological methods were used. Such menifestations of failure to adjust as lower selfesteem, feeling of guilt, helplessness, passivity, anxiety and fear were observed in nearly all the patients.
