The Characteristics and Patterns of Drug-Resistant Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Eastern India.

Background: Drug-resistant tuberculosis is a major public health problem throughout the world and accounts for substantial morbidity and mortality rates in India, too. Early diagnosis is the corner stone of tuberculosis treatment. State-level and cluster-wise variations in drug resistance is a possibility and should be regularly checked in from time to time.

Phthalate esters (PEs) one of the widely used plasticizers, and are known for their environmental contamination and endocrine disruption. Hence, it is important to study their distribution in a riverine environment. This study was aimed to determine the Spatio-temporal trends of 16 PEs in surface water, sediment and fish from rivers in southern India, and to assess their environmental health risks.

Impact of Treatment Supporters on the Treatment Outcomes of Drug Resistant-Tuberculosis (DR-TB) Patients: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background:  Drug resistant-tuberculosis (DR-TB) patients are provided universal drug susceptibility testing (UDST), anti-TB drugs for the treatment of DR-TB, nutritional support (Nikshay Poshan Yojana - the financial incentive of rupees five hundred per month for each notified DR-TB patient for the duration for which the patient is on anti-TB drugs) by the Government of India.

Methods:  This retrospective cohort record-based study was conducted in DR-TB patients. Some 1095 DR-TB patients who have initiated treatment at Nodal DR-TB Centre, Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Darbhanga, and continued their anti-TB drugs at home blocks were followed till their treatment outcome was known.

Investigation of distribution, sources and flux of perfluorinated compounds in major southern Indian rivers and their risk assessment.

Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are a group of emerging contaminants still less reported in rivers, particularly southern India. Therefore, we investigated the fate of 13 PFCs in three major rivers in southern India during post-monsoon and summer seasons. Twelve PFCs were detected, with an average total PFCs of 1853 ± 1463 pg/l.

Molecular characterization of chikungunya virus isolates from two localized outbreaks during 2014-2019 in Kerala, India.

After the 2005-2009 chikungunya epidemic, intermittent outbreaks were reported in many parts of India. The outbreaks were caused by either locally circulating strains or imported viruses. Virus transmission routes can be traced by complete genome sequencing studies.

Synthetic musks (SMs), a class of organic compounds added to various personal care products (PCPs) to enhance aroma, are increasingly released into the environment and become one emerging contaminants of concern in India. Some SMs like Galaxolide, Tonalide and Musk Ketone (MK) are lipophilic and found ubiquitously in the environment, posing health and ecological risks, especially affecting aquatic organisms. It is possible that the social cognitive abilities of pet dogs are induced by indirect conditioning through living with humans, and studying free-ranging dogs can provide deeper insights into differentiating between innate abilities and conditioning in dogs.
