For people with severe or profound intellectual disability (ID), support staff are important interaction partners. The quality of their interactions, a multidimensional construct, is well documented, but the staff perspective remains underexposed. This study aims to capture the behaviors, thoughts, and emotions of staff when interacting with their clients, and their views on what constitutes quality.

Background: HIV type 1 (HIV-1) remains a global health concern, with the greatest burden in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite 40 years of research, no vaccine candidate has shown durable and protective efficacy against HIV-1 acquisition. Although pre-exposure prophylaxis in groups with high vulnerability can be very effective, barriers to its use, such as perceived low acquisition risk, fear of stigma, and concerns about side-effects, remain.

Purpose: Despite the availability of clinical guidelines for hip fracture patients, adherence to these guidelines is challenging, potentially resulting in suboptimal patient care. The goal of this study was (1) to evaluate and benchmark the adherence to recently established quality indicators (QIs), and (2) to study clinical outcomes, in fragile hip fracture patients from different European countries.

Methods: This observational, cross-sectional multicenter study was performed in 10 hospitals from 9 European countries including data of 298 consecutive patients.

Histological data on muscle fiber size and proportion in (very) young typically developing (TD) children is not well documented and data on capillarization and satellite cell content are also lacking. This study investigated the microscopic properties of the medial gastrocnemius muscle in growing TD children, grouped according to age and gender to provide normal reference values in healthy children. Microbiopsies of the medial gastrocnemius (MG) muscle were collected in 46 TD boys and girls aged 2-10 years subdivided into 4 age groups (2-4, 4-6, 6-8 and 8-10 years).

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a heterogeneous group of motor disorders attributed to a non-progressive lesion in the developing brain. Knowledge on skeletal muscle properties is important to understand the impact of CP and treatment but data at the microscopic levels are limited and inconsistent. Currently, muscle biopsies are collected during surgery and are restricted to CP eligible for such treatment or they may refer to another muscle or older children in typically developing (TD) biopsies.

(1) Background: Complex proximal humerus fractures often result in complications following surgical treatment. A better understanding of the full 3D displacement would provide insight into the fracture morphology. Repositioning of fracture elements is often conducted by using the contralateral side as a reconstruction template.

Background: The presence of in-house attending trauma surgeons has improved efficiency of processes in the treatment of polytrauma patients. However, literature remains equivocal regarding the influence of the presence of in-house attendings on mortality. In our hospital there is a double trauma surgeon on-call system.

Background: The high support needs of persons with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities hamper their possibilities for self-determination. To support their self-determination understanding of what this means for this group is necessary.

Method: A three-round Delphi procedure with international experts was undertaken to operationalise self-determination for persons with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities.

Introduction: The number of operatively treated clavicle fractures has increased over the past decades. Consequently, this has led to an increase in secondary procedures required to treat complications such as fracture-related infection (FRI). The primary objective of this study was to assess the clinical and functional outcome of patients treated for FRI of the clavicle.

Unlabelled: The goal was to investigate if patient characteristics can be used to predict 1-year post-fracture mortality after proximal humeral fracture (PHF). A clinical prediction model showed that the combination of 6 pre-fracture characteristics demonstrated good predictive properties for mortality within 1 year of PHF.

Introduction: Proximal humeral fractures (PFH) are the third most common major non-vertebral osteoporotic fractures in older persons and result in an increased mortality risk.

Background And Objectives: Fractures of the proximal humerus are common, particularly in elderly populations. Anatomical locking plates target stabilization with a multitude of screws spanning into the humeral head. Sound implant placement and screw length determination are key for a successful clinical outcome but are difficult to obtain from planar X-rays.

: Proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) are common in the elderly, but the treatment results are often poor. A clear understanding of fracture morphology and distribution of cortical bone loss is important for improved surgical decision making, operative considerations, and new implant designs. The aim of this study was to develop a 3D segmentation fracture mapping technique to create a statistical description of the spatial pattern and cortical bone loss of complex PHFs.

Postoperative shoulder activity after proximal humerus fracture treatment could influence the outcomes of osteosynthesis and may depend on the rehabilitation protocol. This multi-centric prospective study aimed at evaluating the feasibility of continuous shoulder activity monitoring over the first six postoperative weeks, investigating potential differences between two different rehabilitation protocols. Shoulder activity was assessed with pairs of accelerometer-based trackers during the first six postoperative weeks in thirteen elderly patients having a complex proximal humerus fracture treated with a locking plate.

Unlabelled: WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Seclusion and restraint still regularly occur within inpatient mental health services. The Council of Europe requires the development of a policy on for instance age limits, techniques and time limits. However, they only define the outer limits of such a policy by indicating when rights are violated.

Background: Developing a cross-clade, globally effective HIV vaccine remains crucial for eliminating HIV.

Methods: This placebo-controlled, double-blind, phase 1/2a study enrolled healthy HIV-uninfected adults at low risk for HIV infection. They were randomized (1:4:1) to receive 4 doses of an adenovirus 26-based HIV-1 vaccine encoding 2 mosaic Gag and Pol, and 2 mosaic Env proteins plus adjuvanted clade C gp140 (referred to here as clade C regimen), bivalent protein regimen (clade C regimen plus mosaic gp140), or placebo.

Background: High-quality, affective relationships are built on meaningful moments of interaction, which are challenging for support staff to establish with people with profound intellectual disabilities. Therefore, we explored what makes a moment of interaction meaningful to support staff and what circumstances facilitate meaningful moments of interaction taking place.

Method: Five direct support staff took part in unstructured, in-depth interviews.

Objectives: Dislocations and periarticular fractures of the acromioclavicular joint are common injuries of the shoulder girdle. When surgical intervention is indicated, subacromial support is one option to restore the alignment between scapula and the distal/lateral clavicle. Devices used for subacromial support rely on a form of subacromial 'hook'.

fracture-related infection (FRI) is a rare, but severe complication in trauma surgery. The optimal antifungal treatment for osteomyelitis, including FRI, has not been established yet, as only cases have been documented and data on bone penetration of antifungal drugs are scarce. We describe a patient with FRI of the tibia who was treated with isavuconazole after developing liver function disturbances during voriconazole therapy.
