Introduction: Recent studies by us and others have unveiled a frequent coexistence of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) with neurodegenerative movement disorders, including progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). This study aims to explore the clinical and radiological characteristics of patients with iNPH who also had comorbid with PSP, referred to as iNPHc + PSP.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients with iNPH admitted to our department between 2009 and 2024.

In this study, changes over time in blood aromatic amino acids (AAAs) and ammonia (NH), the causative agents of hepatic coma, during OLHDF in patients with ALF were analysed.

A clinical case of anaphylaxis after eating oatmeal contaminated with booklice (Liposcelis bostrychophila).

A 52-year-old man presented to our department with generalized erythema, watery stools, and vomiting 30 min after ingesting coconut, oatmeal, and vegetable juice. On arrival, his blood pressure was 120/79 mm Hg, heart rate was 126 beats per min, blood oxygen saturation was 96%, and lip cyanosis was observed. The patient experienced diffuse redness throughout the body and was diagnosed as having severe anaphylaxis.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) may arise from increased blood flow to the lungs, persistent pulmonary arterial pressure elevation, or the use of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) during surgical repair. Inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) selectively reduces high blood pressure in the pulmonary vessels without lowering systemic blood pressure, making it useful for treating children with postoperative PH due to heart disease.

BH4 is consumed as a cofactor or is readily oxidized by autooxidation. Quinonoid dihydropteridine reductase (QDPR) is an enzyme that reduces quinonoid dihydrobiopterin (qBH2) back to BH4, and we have previously demonstrated the significance of QDPR in maintaining BH4 in vivo using Qdpr-KO mice.

Methods A web-based survey was conducted from July 26 to September 13, 2021, among EMTs in Hokkaido, Japan.

A previous, proof-of-concept clinical study suggested that dermal sheath cup cell injections into the affected areas of male/female pattern hair loss (PHL) may have some amelioratory effects, the clinical efficacy of which needs further examination. A phase III equivalent clinical study was conducted to further probe the therapeutic potential of this novel approach and verify its safety and efficacy in improving the appearance of PHL. Thirty-six participants with PHL were injected with dermal sheath cup cell harvested from non-affected occipital hair follicles twice in quarterly intervals.

Background: Upon cellular injury, damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) are released into the extracellular space and evoke proinflammatory and prothrombotic responses in animal models of sterile inflammation. However, in clinical settings, the dynamics of DAMP levels after trauma and links between DAMPs and trauma-associated coagulopathy remain largely undetermined.

Methods: Thirty-one patients with severe trauma, who were transferred to Kagoshima City Hospital between June 2018 and December 2019, were consecutively enrolled in this study.

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate an emergency medical technician (EMT) care patient satisfaction scale to measure patient satisfaction with prehospital emergency care. To date, patient satisfaction surveys of EMTs have been performed subjectively, e using each facility's questionnaire, without the use of a validated patient satisfaction scale. However, no specific scale has been devised to assess patient satisfaction with EMTs.

Influence of work and family environment on burnout among emergency medical technicians.

Objective: Burnout among emergency medical technicians is a serious problem affecting delivery of quality emergency medical services. Although the repetitive nature of the job and lower education level requirements for technicians have been reported as risk factors, little is known about the influence of burden of responsibility, degree of supervisor support, and home environment on burnout among emergency medical technicians. This study aimed to test the hypothesis that burden of responsibility, degree of supervisor support, and home environment increase burnout probability.

Oxidation of BH, a cofactor of nitric oxide synthase (NOS), produces reactive oxygen species (ROS) through uncoupling of NOS and affects vascular endothelial dysfunction. Ascorbic acid (AsA) inhibits the oxidation of BH and reduces ROS. However, the kinetic changes of BH in sepsis and its effect on the kinetic changes in AsA administration therapy, as well as the appropriate timing of AsA administration for AsA therapy to be effective, are unclear.

Comparison of the levels of neopterin, CRP, and IL-6 in patients infected with and without SARS-CoV-2.

Background: Neopterin (NP) is a biomarker for activated cellular immunity and is elevated in diseases including viral and bacterial infections, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. However, the clinical assessment of neopterin has not been used for these disorders because the physiological significance of measuring NP is obscure. It would be important to compare the NP profiles with those of other inflammation markers especially in relatively early phase of patients to reveal the significance of NP measurements in pathological states.
