Introduction: Bone fragility is a critical issue in the treatment of elderly people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). In the Canagliflozin Cardiovascular Assessment Study, the subjects with T2D who were treated with canagliflozin showed a significant increase in fracture events compared to a placebo group as early as 12 weeks post-initiation. In addition, it has been unclear whether sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors promote bone fragility.

Here, we report the case of a 69-year-old female who discontinued denosumab to undergo dental treatment. She subsequently suffered rebound-associated vertebral fractures (RVFs) twice. Denosumab is approved in several countries for osteoporosis treatment.

In this study I examined the role of the hands in scene perception. In Experiment 1, eye movements during free observation of natural scenes were analyzed. Fixations to faces and hands were compared under several conditions, including scenes with and without faces, with and without hands, and without a person.

Efficacy of Switching From Teriparatide to Bisphosphonate or Denosumab: A Prospective, Randomized, Open-Label Trial.

There is no consensus on an optimal treatment after daily teriparatide (TPTD). We performed a prospective, randomized, open-label, 12-month trial to investigate the efficacy of follow-up treatment after daily TPTD treatment for Japanese patients. Three-hundred patients were enrolled in this study.

Rebound-associated vertebral fractures after discontinuation of denosumab for the treatment of maxillitis.

We reported a 69-year-old female who discontinued denosumab due to dental treatment and subsequently suffered rebound-associated vertebral fractures 10 months after the last injection. This case raised an alarm regarding the discontinuation of denosumab for dental treatment. Denosumab, a human monoclonal antibody administered by subcutaneous injection, to the best of our knowledge, is the only fully investigated inhibitor of receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand.

Immunochromatography test for rapid diagnosis of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection.

The sensitivity and specificity of a new rapid Mycoplasma pneumoniae antigen immunochromatography (IC) test, DK-MP-001, were determined using particle agglutination (PA) antibody response and loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) gene detection as the gold standard. Of 165 patients, 59 were diagnosed with M. pneumoniae infection based on a ≥fourfold rise of serum PA antibody during the course of the illness.

The risk factor of preoperative deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty.

Objectives: The objective of this retrospective study was to investigate the prevalence of asymptomatic deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and the risk of DVT in patients admitted to hospital for total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Methods: From September of 2003 to December of 2013, 322 patients admitted for TKA were eligible for this retrospective study. A diagnosis of DVT was confirmed by Doppler ultrasonography.
