Calcium alginate hydrogel is one of the most widely used materials for drug-carrier beads used in drug-delivery systems. In this study, we developed a new method to improve the encapsulation efficiency of ingredients, such as medicines, in calcium alginate hydrogel beads. In the gold standard method, the hydrogel beads are prepared in the liquid phase.

Many types of nucleotide variants of have been identified, and phenotypic variability has been reported.

Plasma glucose and insulin levels were measured in 1270 young (age <40 years) and 2153 middle-aged persons with NGT ( = 1531) and glucose intolerance ( = 622) during a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test. Height (Ht), weight, and waist circumference (WC) were measured.

A bronchoscopy confirmed the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the lung, classified as cT2bN2M0 stage IIIA, with a deletion mutation in exon 19. Weekly carboplatin plus paclitaxel was administered in combination with thoracic radiotherapy, followed by maintenance therapy with durvalumab for 1 year.

The only risk assessment used is the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). We investigated the relationship between Brief Scale for Coping Profile (BSCP) subscales performed during pregnancy and EPDS scores.

Neonatal pertussis can potentially cause severe complications and even death. Mothers have been most frequently identified as the source of neonatal pertussis. Approximately a dozen countries have implemented pertussis vaccination programs for pregnant women to protect neonates; however, in Japan, this has not been implemented.

Various methods for dietary P restriction exist, but the bioavailability of P in food should also be considered when making appropriate food choices to maintain patients' quality of life. Here, we propose the "Phosphatemic Index" (PI) as a novel tool for evaluating dietary P load based on P bioavailability; we also evaluated the effect of continuous intake of different PI foods in mixed meals on serum intact fibroblast growth factor 23 concentration.

To investigate the influence of physicochemical properties of the substrate on the degradation rate, three different aldehydes, namely, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and benzaldehyde, were selected as model substrates. Upon ultrasonic irradiation alone, the removal ratio of the hydrophobic substrate benzaldehyde reached 100% after 120 min, whereas the removal ratios of the hydrophilic substrates formaldehyde and acetaldehyde were only 21.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIt is known that transcription of encoding a trigger for sporulation is under repression by SinR, a master repressor of biofilm formation, and under positive stringent transcription control depending on the adenine species at the transcription initiation nucleotide (nt). Deletion and base substitution analyses of the promoter (P ) region using fusions indicated that either a 5-nt deletion (Δ5, nt -61/-57, +1 is the transcription initiation nt) or the substitution of G at nt -45 with A (G-45A) relieved repression. Thus, we found a pair of SinR-binding consensus sequences (GTTCTYT; Y is T or C) in an inverted orientation (SinR-1) between nt -57/-42, which is most likely a SinR-binding site for repression.

Aqueous suspensions containing silica or polystyrene latex were ultrasonically atomized for separating particles of a specific size. With the help of a fog involving fine liquid droplets with a narrow size distribution, submicron particles in a limited size-range were successfully separated from suspensions. Performance of the separation was characterized by analyzing the size and the concentration of collected particles with a high resolution method.
