Impact of atorvastatin and mesenchymal stem cells combined with ivermectin on murine trichinellosis.

Trichinellosis is one of the global food-borne parasitic diseases that can cause severe tissue damage. The traditionally used drugs for the treatment of trichinellosis have limited efficacy against the encysted larvae in the muscular phase of the disease. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the role of atorvastatin and mesenchymal stem cells combined with ivermectin against different phases of Trichinella in experimentally infected mice.

Effect of silymarin on the relative gene expressions of some inflammatory cytokines in the liver of CCl-intoxicated male rats.

The intensive exposure of the liver cells to any type of noxae, such as viruses, drugs, alcohols, and xenobiotics could induce hepatic inflammation through the upregulation of gene expression of several fibrotic and inflammatory mediators. So, our study assessed the role of silymarin on the inflammatory response induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl) as an example of xenobiotics on liver tissues in male rats. Forty-eight Wister male rats (weight: 130 ± 10) were housed for 14 days and then divided randomly into six groups: control, SLY: rats received only silymarin orally for 12 weeks (daily), CO: rats were injected with corn oil for 8 weeks (3 times weekly), CCl: rats were injected with CCl solubilized in corn oil for 8 weeks (day by day), Treated: rats received silymarin for 4 weeks after CCl injection, Protected: rats received silymarin for 4 weeks before and 8 weeks during CCl injection.

Anti-Alzheimer Activity of Combinations of Cocoa with Vinpocetine or Other Nutraceuticals in Rat Model: Modulation of Wnt3/β-Catenin/GSK-3β/Nrf2/HO-1 and PERK/CHOP/Bcl-2 Pathways.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a devastating illness with limited therapeutic interventions. The aim of this study is to investigate the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying AD and explore the potential neuroprotective effects of cocoa, either alone or in combination with other nutraceuticals, in an animal model of aluminum-induced AD. Rats were divided into nine groups: control, aluminum chloride (AlCl) alone, AlCl with cocoa alone, AlCl with vinpocetine (VIN), AlCl with epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), AlCl with coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), AlCl with wheatgrass (WG), AlCl with vitamin (Vit) B complex, and AlCl with a combination of Vit C, Vit E, and selenium (Se).

Study of Monocyte Subsets and Their Surface Expression of CD86 and Serum IL-17 Compared to Serum Procalcitonin as Markers of Early Neonatal Sepsis.

Introduction: Neonatal sepsis can quickly progress to multi-organ failure with high morbidity and mortality, making early diagnosis mandatory. Although being the gold standard, the long duration of blood culture may lead to hazardous neonatal complications. Sepsis activates monocytes and changes their subset distribution with the resultant activation of lymphocytes and adaptive immune cells changing the plasma cytokines levels.
