Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are widely involved in plant growth and development. However, the function of circRNAs in plant somatic embryogenesis (SE) remains elusive. Here, by using high-throughput sequencing, a total of 5029 circRNAs were identified in the three stages of longan (Dimocarpus longan Lour.

Passion fruit () is an important fruit crop with high economic value. Genetic engineering plays an important role in crop improvement with desired traits and gene functional studies. The lack of a simple, efficient, and stable transformation system for passion fruit has greatly limited gene functional studies.

Production of passion fruit () is restricted by postharvest decay, which limits the storage period. We isolated, identified, and characterized fungal pathogens causing decay in two passion fruit cultivars during two fruit seasons in China. Morphological characteristics and nucleotide sequences of ITS-rDNA regions identified eighteen isolates, which were pathogenic on yellow and purple fruit.

Article Synopsis
  • * Fourteen ARF genes were identified and categorized into two groups based on structural and evolutionary traits, highlighting the impact of whole-genome and segmental duplications on their expansion.
  • * Analysis of gene interactions, stress response elements, and expression profiles suggests that certain DlARF genes are involved in early somatic embryogenesis and respond to various hormones and environmental stresses, offering insights for future research aimed at improving longan cultivation.

Flowering is the first committed step of plant sexual reproduction. While the developing flower is a strong sink requiring large quantity of sugars from photosynthetic source tissues, this process is under-temper-spatially controlled via hormone signaling pathway and nutrient availability. Sugar transporters SUT/SUC and SWEET mediate sugars movement across membranes and play a significant role in various physiological processes, including reproductive organ development.

The NAM, ATAF1/2, and CUC2 form a huge plant-specific gene family of NAC TFs that are involved in the growth, development, and regulation of biotic and abiotic stress responses. Although the draft genome of longan (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) has been published, however the comprehensive data regarding the functions, evolution, and expression patterns of the NAC family are still unavailable.

DNA methylation plays essential roles in gene regulation, chromatin structure stability, gene imprinting, X chromosome inactivation and embryonic development. However, the dynamics and functions of DNA methylation during the early stage of longan (Dimocarpus longan) somatic embryogenesis (SE) are still unclear. In this study, we carried out whole genome bisulphite sequencing and transcriptome sequencing analyses for embryogenic callus (EC), incomplete compact pro-embryogenic cultures (ICpEC) and globular embryos (GE) in an early SE system.

Gerbera hybrida is one of the top five cut flowers across the world, it is host for the root rot causing parasite called Phytophthora cryptogea. In this study, plantlets of healthy and root-rot pathogen-infected G. hybrida were used as plant materials for transcriptome analyis using high-throughput Illumina sequencing technique.
