A comprehensive understanding of the costs of routine vaccine delivery is essential for planning, budgeting and sustaining India's Universal Immunisation Programme. India currently allocates approximately US$25 per child for vaccines and operational costs. This budget is prepared based on historical expenditure data as information on cost is not available.

Light chain myeloma (LCM) is an unusual neoplasm accounting for about 1 8% of all plasma cell myelomas. It is characterized by the absence of a detectable M protein in the serum and urine protein electrophoresis, altered free light chain ratio, bone marrow plasmacytosis and related organ or tissue damage. We report a 60-year-old man with LCM presenting with pancytopenia.

Choledochal cyst is a rare congenital malformation which is usually found in young children and adolescents but can rarely present in the adult age group. It can present with several complications like cholangitis, pancreatitis, biliary cirrhosis, portal hypertension, liver abscess, malignancy and rarely spontaneous rupture (in 2% of cases) causing biliary peritonitis. A case of spontaneous rupture of choledochal cyst during second trimester of pregnancy is reported where the patient was managed by minimal surgery, peritoneal washout, placement of T-tube and planned for definitive treatment in the postpartum period.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to compare dental arch dimensions between patients with beta thalassemia major and normal individuals aged 12-16 years, analyzing multiple dimensions using dental impressions.
  • - Researchers conducted measurements of various arch widths and lengths using digital calipers, identifying significant differences in several parameters between the two groups, particularly in the maxillary and mandibular arches.
  • - Findings indicate that patients with beta thalassemia major have significantly reduced dental arch widths and lengths compared to normal individuals, suggesting potential clinical implications for dental treatment in these patients.

Cornual (interstitial) ectopic pregnancy is an uncommon type of ectopic pregnancy which is located in the interstitial part of the fallopian tube. It accounts for 2%-4% of all ectopic pregnancies. Cornual pregnancies often pose a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge with a significant high morbidity and mortality as a result of massive intraperitoneal bleeding.

In Labeo rohita exposed to sub-lethal concentrations of an azo dye, Eriochrome black T for 4 days, gills show considerable alterations in the activity of certain metabolic enzymes-alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, carboxylesterase, lactate dehydrogenase, and succinate dehydrogenase; and antioxidant enzymes-catalase and peroxidase. The activities of alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, carboxylesterase, succinate dehydrogenase, catalase, and peroxidase decline significantly. This has been associated with impaired metabolic function of the gills due to azo dye toxicity.

Enhancement of immune system seems to be the most promising method of preventing fish diseases. Several herbal products have immunostimulant properties, and are environmental friendly, economical and can act against a broad spectrum of pathogens. Present study was designed with an aim to evaluate the role of aloin, extracted from a herb Aloe barbadensis, in the modulation of certain immune parameters in an Indian major carp, Labeo rohita.

Introduction: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus. ED, like other sexual disorders, is often under-reported and under-diagnosed, as talking about sex is considered a taboo in our society.

Methodology: All the male patients with diabetes mellitus (with or without active complaints of ED) attending Medicine or Psychiatry OPD of the institute during the study period were enrolled in the study.

Aim: Dried blood spots (DBS) offer significant ethical and scientific advantages; however preparation of calibration curves often times, off-sets some of these advantages. We have developed a methodology wherein small volumes of external calibration standards can be spiked on to blank DBS cards.

Results: A total of 2 μl of stock solution spotted on to blank blood spots yielded concentrations that were comparable to those obtained using conventional DBS method.

Chronic exercise has been shown to prevent or slow age-related decline in cognitive functions in otherwise healthy, asymptomatic individuals. We sought to assess cognitive function in a stable coronary heart disease (CHD) sample and its relationship to cerebral oxygenation-perfusion, cardiac hemodynamic responses, and [Formula: see text] peak compared to age-matched and young healthy control subjects. Twenty-two young healthy controls (YHC), 20 age-matched old healthy controls (OHC) and 25 patients with stable CHD were recruited.

Splenic Marginal Zone Lymphoma (SMZL) is a rare B-cell neoplasm comprising less than 2% of non-Hodgkin lymphomas. We hereby report a case of SMZL in a 66-year-old female who presented with fever and massive splenomegaly. Peripheral blood smear examination showed atypical lymphoid cells showing variable cytoplasmic processes.

Background: Illness management after an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is crucial to prevent cardiac complications, to foster participation in a cardiac rehabilitation (CR) program, and to optimize recovery. Web-based tailored interventions have the potential to provide individualized information and counseling to optimize patient's illness management after hospital discharge.

Objective: We aimed to assess the feasibility and acceptability of a Web-based tailored intervention (TAVIE@COEUR) designed to improve illness management in patients hospitalized for an ACS.

Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is a common form of adult epilepsy involving the limbic structures of the temporal lobe. Subiculum neurons act to provide a major output from the hippocampus and consist of a large population of endogenously bursting excitatory neurons. In TLE, subiculum neurons are largely spared, become hyperexcitable and show spontaneous epileptiform activity.

The aim of this study was to compare cardiovascular hemodynamics and cerebral oxygenation/perfusion (COP) during and after maximal incremental exercise in obese individuals according to their aerobic fitness versus age-matched healthy controls (AMHC). Fifty-four middle-aged obese (OB) and 16 AMHC were recruited. Maximal cardiopulmonary function (gas exchange analysis), cardiac hemodynamics (impedance cardiography), and left frontal COP (near-infrared spectroscopy: NIRS) were measured continuously during a maximal incremental ergocycle test.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the relationship between various expressions of relative exercise intensity percentage of maximal oxygen uptake (%VO), percentage of maximal heart rate (%HR), %VO reserve (%VOR), and %HR reserve (%HRR)) in order to obtain the more appropriate method for exercise intensity prescription when using an immersible ergocycle (IE) and to propose a prediction equation to estimate oxygen consumption (VO) based on IE pedaling rate (rpm) for an individualized exercise training prescription.

Methods: Thirty-three healthy participants performed incremental exercise tests on IE and dryland ergocycle (DE) at equal external power output (P). Exercise on IE began at 40 rpm and was increased by 10 rpm until exhaustion.
