[Chi-square test of homogeneity in clinical studies: A tool for analyzing differences between treatments].

This article explores the application of the chi-squared test of homogeneity in the context of clinical studies, using a previous study on the efficacy of two analgesics for treating headache as an example. The sample included 215 patients, whose responses to treatment were assessed and recorded across four pain intensity categories. The test allowed for the identification of significant differences between the treatments evaluated, proving to be a valuable statistical tool for comparing groups in clinical research.

Lower Limb Deep Venous Thrombosis After Posterior Spinal Fusion as an Initial Manifestation of Factor V Leiden Mutation in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report.

Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a serious condition in which a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually of the lower extremity. In pediatric orthopedic surgery, the incidence of thrombotic events is rare. This is a case presentation of a 12-year-old female patient without previous events or a family history of thrombotic events who underwent a posterior spinal fusion due to severe adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Evaluating olfactory function and quality of life in patients with traumatic brain injury.

Patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) had worse olfactory quality of life (QoL) and Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-22 scores compared to a normal cohort. A worse olfactory QoL correlated with concussion symptom burden. Olfactory dysfunction among TBI patients should be addressed to improve overall outcomes.

Research Questions: Patients with severe pulmonary hypertension associated with chronic lung disease have a poor prognosis. Targeted pulmonary arterial hypertension therapies might improve exercise capacity and outcome, but there are no guidelines on treatments which are not recommended because of an unproven benefit, with discordant results from few studies in this context. Decision to use AT is a balance between the intended benefits and known bleeding risk, especially after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Preinjury inappropriate AT offers no benefit for the patient and also increases the risk of intracranial hemorrhage and worse outcome in the setting of TBI.

The current quality improvement interventional study aimed to determine whether an educational intervention focused on evidence-based practices of sepsis screening for RNs would increase accuracy of sepsis screenings performed among older adult patients in a 32-bed medical-surgical unit of a large urban trauma hospital. A total of 34 RNs participated in this study. Sepsis screenings of participants were collected and audited before and after the educational intervention to determine changes in sepsis screening accuracy.
