Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest tumor, which has a positive correlation with obesity which led to increasing interest in the relationship between adipokines and cancer progression. Apelin is a secreted peptide involved in regulation of tumor progression and invasiveness. In this study, we examined apelin and apelin receptor expression level in colorectal cancer.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the mRNA expression and protein levels of apelin, the apelin receptor, resistin, and adiponectin in the tumor tissues of surgically treated esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients. Concentrations of serum adipokines were assessed in relation to ESCC progression.

Background: Stimulation of toll-like receptors (TLRs) has been linked to the development of esophageal and gastric cancers.
Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical significance of tissue expression and serum concentration of TLR-2, TLR-4, TLR-7 and TLR-9 in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and gastro-esophageal junction adenocarcinoma.
Material And Methods: The study group consisted of 97 individuals: 32 with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, 27 with gastro-esophageal junction cancer, and 38 ageand gender-matched controls.
Metastasis is the leading cause of mortality in patients with highly invasive cancers and, as such, is a major problem for medicine. It has been increasingly recognized that cancer-related inflammation plays an important role in promoting invasion and the metastatic process in which cell motility and upregulation of proteolytic enzymes are crucial events. TNFα is a proinflammatory cytokine known to stimulate synthesis of MMP9, a zinc- and calcium-dependent endopeptidase contributing to the regulation of ECM remodeling and cell signaling.

We investigated the efficacy of using serum PGE-2 concentration as a biomarker for this cancer type.
Material And Methods: Prostaglandin-2 levels were analyzed in the serum of 65 ESCC patients and in 47 healthy individuals.
Heterotopic pancreas is a rare congenital disorder characterized by the presence of normal pancreatic tissue located outside the pancreas. The most common locations include the duodenum, stomach, and jejunum. Most cases of heterotopic pancreas are asymptomatic.

Thirty-two patients (25 men and 7 women), and 5 healthy bone marrow donors serving as controls were studied. Bone marrow samples were evaluated by light microscopy and examined by flow cytofluorometry.

In 13 cases stenosis in the upper anastomosis and in 3 patients stenosis in the anastomosis with stomach were corrected.

Eleven patients had pancreatoduodenectomy according to Whipple, four had only local excision of Vater's papilla along with the tumour. All four had early recurrence and were re-operated by Whipple method.
