Background: Although advanced‑stage follicular lymphoma (FL) is considered incurable, survival has improved with the introduction of the anti-CD20 antibodies, rituximab (R) and obinutuzumab (G). However, FL can undergo histological transformation (HT) to a more aggressive disease, and a validated model for predicting HT risk is not yet available.

Patients And Methods: We assessed HT incidence, risk factors and outcomes in the phase III, GALLIUM study evaluating R- or G-chemotherapy in patients with previously untreated, advanced-stage FL (ClinicalTrials.

Small ubiquitin-like modifiers (SUMOs) are conjugated to protein substrates in cells to regulate their function. The attachment of SUMO family members SUMO1-3 to substrate proteins is reversed by specific isopeptidases called SENPs (sentrin-specific protease). Whereas SENPs are SUMO-isoform or linkage type specific, comprehensive analysis is missing.

The bioavailability of dietary zinc (Zn) in pigs may differ according to the Zn source and is affected by other components in the diet. The aim was to determine the biomarkers of Zn bioavailability (apparent total tract digestibility of Zn and serum Zn status) following six different sources of added Zn and their effect on the performance and faecal consistency score in piglets 0-3 weeks after weaning on day 28. The sources of Zn were Zn oxide (ZnO), Zn sulfate (ZnSO), porous ZnO, Zn-glycinate, amino acid-bound Zn and hydroxy covalent-bound Zn added at 100 mg/kg (ZnO and ZnSO also added at 1000 mg/kg), in a total of eight treatments ( = 12/treatment).

Purpose: Predictive biomarkers for capecitabine benefit in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) have been recently proposed using samples from phase III clinical trials, including non-basal phenotype and biomarkers related to angiogenesis, stroma, and capecitabine activation genes. We aimed to validate these findings on the larger phase III GEICAM/CIBOMA clinical trial.

Experimental Design: Tumor tissues from patients with TNBC randomized to standard (neo)adjuvant chemotherapy followed by capecitabine versus observation were analyzed using a 164-gene NanoString custom nCounter codeset measuring mRNA expression.

Background And Purpose: Virtual magnetic resonance elastography (vMRE) is an experimental imaging modality designed to non-invasively predict the haptic properties of tissues. The modality is sensitive to tissue stiffness and fibrosis. Information about meningioma consistency prior to resection is of great interest in neurological surgery as the surgical plan and outcome may be affected by the tumor's stiffness.

Rituximab plus cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (R-CHOP) is the current standard therapy for patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and is curative in ∼60% of patients. Atezolizumab is a humanized immunoglobulin G1 monoclonal antibody that targets programmed death-ligand 1 and has previously shown antitumor activity in several tumor types. In a phase 1b/2 trial (NCT02596971), we evaluated the safety and efficacy of atezolizumab in combination with R-CHOP (atezo-R-CHOP; for 6-8 cycles) in patients with previously untreated DLBCL.

Purpose: Button implants with either a fixed-loop device (FLD) or adjustable-loop device (ALD) are used frequently in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction (ACLR). Since revision ACLR is associated with poorer clinical outcomes, it is important to investigate the difference in risk of revision between FLDs and ALDs. Therefore, this paper aims to systematically assess the risk of revision ACLR between ALDs and FLDs as well as secondary outcomes such as knee stability and patient reported outcomes (PROMs).

Establishing a catalog of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) genes and identifying functional networks would improve our understanding of its oligogenic underpinnings. Our studies identified protein biogenesis cofactors Nascent polypeptide-Associated Complex (NAC) and Signal-Recognition-Particle (SRP) as disease candidates and novel regulators of cardiac differentiation and morphogenesis. Knockdown (KD) of the alpha- (Nacα) or beta-subunit (bicaudal, bic) of NAC in the developing Drosophila heart disrupted cardiac developmental remodeling resulting in a fly with no heart.

In many countries, medical levels of zinc (typically as zinc oxide) are added to piglet diets in the first two weeks post-weaning to prevent the development of post-weaning diarrhoea (). However, high levels of zinc constitute an environmental polluting agent, and may contribute to the development and/or maintenance of antimicrobial resistance () among bacteria. Consequently, the EU banned administering medical levels of zinc in pig diets as of June 2022.

Classifying sleep stages in real-time represents considerable potential, for instance in enabling interactive noise masking in noisy environments when persons are in a state of light sleep or to support clinical staff in analyzing sleep patterns etc. However, the current gold standard for classifying sleep stages, Polysomnography (PSG), is too cumbersome to apply outside controlled hospital settings and requires manual as well as highly specialized knowledge to classify sleep stages. Using data from Consumer Sleep Technologies (CSTs) to inform machine learning algorithms represent a promising opportunity for automating the process of classifying sleep stages, also in settings outside the confinements of clinical expert settings.

Article Synopsis
  • * A cohort of over 18,000 children exposed to maternal autoimmune disease was compared to nearly 37,000 unexposed children in New South Wales, Australia, with data collected on maternal health and child infections before the age of 2, and ASD diagnoses by age 9.
  • * Although both maternal autoimmune disease and childhood infections were associated with increased odds of ASD, the study found no evidence of a synergistic or additive interaction between the two factors, suggesting that one does not amplify the effects

Tyre wear particles (TWP) are some of the dominant sources of microplastics in the aquatic environment. Once TWP enter aquatic systems, they can leach certain plastic additives that can be potentially toxic to biota. However, little is known about the impact of TWP lixiviates on marine phytoplankton, the base of marine food webs.

The vertical growth rate of basaltic magma chambers remains largely unknown with available estimates being highly uncertain. Here, we propose a novel approach to address this issue using the classical Skaergaard intrusion that started crystallizing from all margins inward only after it had been completely filled with magma. Our numerical simulations indicate that to keep the growing Skaergaard magma chamber completely molten, the vertical growth rate must have been on the order of several hundreds to a few thousands of meters per year, corresponding to volumetric flow rates of tens to hundreds of cubic kilometers per year.

Bacillus cereus strain CPT56D-587-MTF (CPTF) was isolated from the highly contaminated Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) subsurface. This site is contaminated with high levels of nitric acid and multiple heavy metals. Amplicon sequencing of the 16S rRNA genes (V4 region) in sediment from this area revealed an amplicon sequence variant (ASV) with 100% identity to the CPTF 16S rRNA sequence.

RNA and DNA modifications occur in eukaryotes and prokaryotes, as well as in their viruses, and serve a wide range of functions, from gene regulation to nucleic acid protection. Although the first nucleotide modification was discovered almost 100 years ago, new and unusual modifications are still being described. Nucleotide modifications have also received more attention lately because of their increased significance, but also because new sequencing approaches have eased their detection.
