A cross-sectional and longitudinal (3.5 years) study on the craniofacial growth of 10 male rhesus monkeys, using metallic implants and a radiographic cephalometric technique based mainly on angular measurements, led to the following observations. (1) Maxilla and mandible were displaced in a forward and downward direction during growth, the sagittal changes being predominant over the vertical changes.

Two anatomic methods are statistically compared with the implant method for superimposing serial head films in 18 subjects with metallic implants. Findings showed that the "best fit" method--that is, superimposition along the palatal plane registered at ANS--traditionally used by orthodontists, significantly underestimates the eruption of the teeth by 30% to 50%. The "structural method," which is based on the use of stable structures in the maxilla, showed no significant differences in vertical displacement of selected landmarks in comparison with the implant method.

This paper describes a case of generalized argyria secondary to the excessive use of eye-drops containing silver nitrate. The diagnosis was confirmed by a skin biopsy showing deposits of metallic silver in the dermis.

A further 36 Danes in 9 families have a hemoglobin variant: five unstable hemoglobins (Volga, Niteroi, and three unidentified), one hereditary methemoglobinemia (M-Arhus), one polycythemia (Ty Gard) and 2 asymptomatic (Athens-Georgia and Hafnia).

We report the first detailed study of hepatic morphology in 28 biopsies from 16 Greenland Eskimo children with fatal familial cholestatic syndrome. The changes were categorized as early, intermediate and late. In the early stage, until 5 months of age, changes were restricted to zone 3, consisting of cholestasis and rosette formation without fibrosis.

The clinical findings are presented and suggest central nervous involvement in most cases. Post mortem findings in one horse were consistent with anaphylaxis whereas in other cases the clinical findings, duration of treatment, speed of onset and subsequent completion of treatment supports diagnosis of an acute procaine toxicity syndrome.

Platelet aggregation in platelet-rich plasma from rabbits, induced by racemic C16-PAF, was competitively antagonized by 9 or 10. At concentrations less than or equal to 10(-4) M, neither compound 9 nor compound 10 caused platelet aggregation, nor did they inhibit platelet aggregation induced by collagen or adenosine diphosphate.

Surface EMG recordings were made bilaterally from the anterior part of the temporal muscle, superficial masseter muscle, and the suprahyoid complex of muscles while tracking mandibular incisor movement in three planes. This was done in 20 normal subjects with 16 different responses.

Use of Feinberg-Whittington or Diamond's culture medium resulted in a diagnosis of 82 and 78 cases, respectively, and the combination of two cultures identified 88 infected women. In comparison, wet-mount examination detected only 53 (60%) of the cases.

Ten normal rhesus monkeys, five juvenile and five adult animals, were analyzed for symmetry in bone density across the cranioskeleton with computed tomography (CT). Fifty contiguous axial CT scans were done using 1.5-mm thick scans between the lower mandibular border and inferior orbital ridge, and 3-mm thick scans from the inferior orbital ridge to the rostral level of insertion of the temporalis muscle.

Two to 13 years after the operation, the patients were asked to complete questionnaires; the answers were analyzed and compared with answers from a smaller group of patients who had undergone surgery with McKissock's technique. Primary complications to the procedure were few, and it is remarkable that total necrosis of the nipple was absent in the series.
