Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a subset of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). This study explores the genetic landscape of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in a cohort of 33 patients from Southern India using targeted exome sequencing. Our analysis revealed a diverse range of mutations across the cohort, with missense mutations being the most prevalent.

Microbial forensics is a new discipline of science that analyzes evidence related to biological crime through the uniqueness and abundance of microorganisms and their toxins. Microorganisms remain alive longer than any other trace of biological evidence, such as DNA, fingerprints, and fibers, because of the protective cell membrane or capsules. Microbiological research has opened up various possibilities for forensic investigations of microbial flora.

CRISPR-Cas is a widespread anti-viral adaptive immune system in the microorganisms. Viruses living in bacteria or some phages carry anti-CRISPR proteins to evade immunity by CRISPR-Cas. The anti-CRISPR proteins are prevalent in phages capable of lying dormant in a CRISPR-carrying host, while their orthologs frequently found in virulent phages.

Background: In Arabidopsis, the genes SHOOT MERISTEMLESS (STM) and CLAVATA3 (CLV3) antagonistically regulate shoot meristem development. STM is essential for both development and maintenance of the meristem, as stm mutants fail to develop a shoot meristem. CLV3, on the other hand, negatively regulates meristem proliferation, and clv3 mutants possess an enlarged shoot meristem.

According to Darwin's theory, endless evolution leads to a revolution. One such example is the Clustered Regularly Interspaced Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)-Cas system, an adaptive immunity system in most archaea and many bacteria. Gene editing technology possesses a crucial potential to dramatically impact miscellaneous areas of life, and CRISPR-Cas represents the most suitable strategy.

The study focused on the analysis of the nature and site of binding of Phenytoin (PHT) -(a model hydrophobic drug) with Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) (a model protein used as a surrogate for HSA). Interactions with defined amounts of Phenytoin and BSA demonstrated a blue shift (hypsochromic -change in the microenvironment of the tryptophan residue with decrease in the polar environment and more of hydrophobicity) with respect to the albumin protein and a red shift (bathochromic -hydrophobicity and polarity related changes) in the case of the model hydrophobic drug. This shift, albeit lower in magnitude, has been substantiated by a fairly convincing, Phenytoin-mediated quenching of the endogenous fluorophore in BSA.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is one of the common prevalent conditions present worldwide. The process of abnormal habits related to clenching and grinding of teeth is referred to as bruxism and is characterized under the heading of parafunctional activity of the masticatory system. Osseointegrated dental implants represent advancements in the field of odontology.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify and assess the oral health issues experienced by postmenopausal women compared to age-matched men.
  • Researchers evaluated 365 postmenopausal women and 365 men for complaints like dry mouth, taste changes, and oral pain, noting various oral lesions.
  • Findings revealed that oral symptoms such as burning sensation (25.8%) and dry mouth (27.1%) were common in postmenopausal women, suggesting hormone-related changes and the need for referral to gynecologists for further evaluation.

Background Industrial growth is occurring exponentially, for unimpeded growth, industrial workers are recruited on a large scale globally. There are various sectors of industries present for which laborers are trained in accordance to their requirements. As workers possess the general health risk of occupational hazards, various labor laws, schemes and policies are undertaken by the government which are implemented by industries, but very few attention for oral health is being given because of which laborers are more progressing towards hidden adverse oral effects which can affect their working efficacy.
