Swarms or blooms of jellyfish are increasingly problematic and can result in high mortality rates of farmed fish. Small species of jellyfish, such as Phialella quadrata (13 mm in diameter), are capable of passing through the mesh of sea cages and being sucked into the mouth of fish during respiration. Results of the current study show that the initial damage to gills of farmed Atlantic salmon, likely produced by nematocyst-derived toxins from the jellyfish, was compounded by secondary bacterial infection with Tenacibaculum maritimum.

The Ag(I) centres are linked via two bridging 2-cyanopyridine ligands to give a centrosymmetric dinuclear complex in which the Ag(I) coordination environment is completed by monodentate non-bridging 2-cyanopyridine ligands. Bridging Ag.

Over a 3-year period every bovine animal on the islands was blood-sampled (heparinised) and laboratory tested using MAb-based ELISAs for BVD virus antibody and antigen detection for evidence of disease. A number of BVD virus positive animals (40) were found and culled.

Although developed specifically for use with coliphages, they should be applicable to viruses infecting other hosts. These methods involve mixed indicators, equilibrium buoyant-density centrifugation, use of enzymes or inhibitors or both, and specific hybridization probes, either alone or in combination.
