Background: The prognostic assessment of older cancer patients is complicated by their heterogeneity. We aimed to assess the prognostic value of routine inflammatory biomarkers.

Methods: A pooled analysis of prospective multicenter cohorts of cancer patients aged ≥70 was performed.

Background: The expression of depressive symptoms in older people with cancer is heterogeneous because of specific features of age or cancer comorbidity. We aimed to identify depressive symptom profiles in this population and describe the associated features including survival.

Materials And Methods: Patients ≥70 years who were referred to geriatric oncology clinics were prospectively included in the ELCAPA study.

Objectives: To assess nonfeasibility of adjuvant-modified FOLFOX6 chemotherapy in patients with stage II or III colorectal cancer.

Methods: Consecutive patients managed between 2009 and 2013 in 2 teaching hospitals in the Paris urban area were included in the CORSAGE (COlorectal canceR, AGe, and chemotherapy fEasability study) cohort study. Nonfeasibility was defined by the frequencies of empirical first-cycle dose reduction (>15%), early discontinuation (<12 cycles), and low relative dose intensity (RDI) (<0.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on assessing the prevalence of clinical depression in older cancer patients aged 70 and above, finding a notable rate of 28.4% among 1,092 patients analyzed.
  • Various factors were identified as being independently linked to clinical depression, including impaired mobility, functional status, social support, cognitive impairment, polypharmacy, and cancer-related pain.
  • The results underscore the importance of comprehensive geriatric assessments in addressing the mental health needs of older cancer patients before initiating treatment.

Purpose: To identify Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) components independently associated with changes in planned cancer treatment.

Patients And Methods: We prospectively included 375 consecutive elderly patients with cancer (ELCAPA01 study) assessed by geriatricians using the CGA. Multivariate analysis was used to identify factors associated with changes in the cancer treatment (intensification, decrease, or delayed > 2 weeks).

Aims: To develop a reproducible and accessible model of elastase-induced fusiform aneurysm in carotid rabbit arteries.

Methods: Elastase, at a concentration of 1-30 U, was incubated into the lumen of carotid rabbit arteries. Four weeks later, angiography, histomorphometry, immunohistochemistry and zymography were performed.

The main arterial pathologies can be associated with a deregulation of remodeling involving matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), whereas gingival healing is characterized by an absence of fibrosis or irreversible elastin/collagen degradation. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of gingival fibroblasts on MMP-1 and MMP-3 secretion in an organotypic artery culture. MMP-1 and MMP-3 secretions and activities (dot blots, zymography, ELISA) were evaluated in coculture of rabbit artery in the presence or not of gingival fibroblasts.

Objective: Embryo-like gingival healing properties are attributed to the gingival fibroblast (GF) and could be used as a model for other types of healing dysfunctions. Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) formation is associated with elastin degradation and increase in matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 activity. We aimed to validate the concept of using GF healing properties in arteries.
