The paper reports new multifunctional plant biostimulant formulations obtained via in situ hydrogelation of chitosan with salicylaldehyde in the presence of a mimetic naphthalimide-based strigolactone, in specific conditions. Various analytical techniques (FTIR, H NMR, SEM, POM, TGA, WRXD) were employed to understand the particularities of the hydrogelation mechanism and its consequences on the formulations' properties.
