Radiation therapy for pediatric patients often includes the use of intravenous anesthesia with supplemental oxygen delivered via the nasal cannula. Here, we describe the use of an adaptive anesthesia technique for electron irradiation of the right naris in a preschool-aged patient treated under anesthesia. The need for an intranasal bolus plug precluded the use of standard oxygen supplementation.

Background: Integrated Facility Design is an adaptation of the Toyota 3P (Production, Preparation, Process) Program. The goal of IFD is to accelerate development time and lower start-up costs.

Purpose Of Review: Radiation oncology is a cornerstone in the treatment of cancer in children. Although painless, there is a requirement for the child to lie still by themselves in the radiation treatment room, for multiple daily or twice daily treatments for up to 6 weeks. Anesthesia or sedation is usually necessary to achieve this in younger children.
