An Unusual Case of Stevens-Johnson/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Overlap Syndrome in HER2 (Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2)-Positive Breast Cancer Patient Treated With Docetaxel.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are rare but life-threatening drug-induced hypersensitivity reactions existing as a disease continuum based on the area of skin detachment. Following three cycles of treatment with docetaxel, a 60-year-old female with early-stage human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer presented to the hospital with a flu-like illness and black crusting of the bilateral orbits, navel, and perianal region. Nikolsky sign was positive, and the patient was subsequently transferred to a specialized burn center for treatment of SJS/TEN overlap syndrome.

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is the most common enzymatic disorder of red blood cells worldwide. The severity of hemolytic anemia varies among individuals with G6PD deficiency, depending on the genetic variant in the G6PD gene; this makes the diagnosis of the condition more challenging in some cases. In this report, we present a case of severe hemolytic anemia and methemoglobinemia in a patient with G6PD deficiency who had been exposed to hydroxychloroquine prescribed for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death throughout the world. Despite new chemotherapeutic, immunomodulating and molecularly targeted agents, patients with locally advanced or metastatic disease still have a poor prognosis. This trial looked to combine antiangiogenic therapy with a first-line cytotoxic chemotherapy doublet, hoping to extend median progression-free survival (PFS) while minimizing toxicity in patients with advanced nonsquamous non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
