Dyslipidemia is a modifiable risk factor that plays a significant role in the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Treating dyslipidemia by lowering cholesterol, predominately low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, has been shown to reduce cardiovascular events.
