A Nonsense Variant in Golden Retrievers with Congenital Eye Malformations.

Causative genetic variants for more than 30 heritable eye disorders in dogs have been reported. For other clinically described eye disorders, the genetic cause is still unclear. We investigated four Golden Retriever litters segregating for highly variable congenital eye malformations.

Certificate-of-Need State Laws and Total Hip Arthroplasty.

Background: Many states have certificate-of-need (CON) programs requiring governmental approval to open or expand healthcare services, with the goal of limiting cost and coordinating utilization of healthcare resources. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the associations between these state-level CON regulations and total hip arthroplasty (THA).

Methods: States were designated as CON or non-CON based on existing laws.

Complications After Total Knee Arthroplasty in Patients With Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis.

Background: Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a locally destructive histiocytic proliferation most commonly occurring in the knee. Extensive local joint destruction can indicate the need for a total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The objective of this study is to evaluate PVNS of the knee as a risk factor for complication after TKA.

Clinical Outcomes of Tibial Components with Modular Stems Used in Primary TKA.

Due to the known potential for fretting and corrosion at modular junctions in orthopaedic implants, this retrospective study evaluated radiographic and clinical outcomes of 85 primary TKA patients implanted with modular stemmed tibial components and followed up for an average of 82 months. There was low incidence of tibial radiolucent lines, excellent functional outcomes, and no complications associated with stem modularity. The findings were comparable to the historical control study involving 107 TKA with a nonmodular tibial stem design.
