Introduction: Monitoring of disease activity and the best therapeutic approach are a challenge in Takayasu arteritis (TA). When associated with acute coronary syndromes (ACS), the best interventional treatment has not been established. The objective of this study was to describe the baseline characteristics, clinical manifestations, treatment and long-term outcome of patients with TA and ACS.

Dentin decalcification during lithium treatment: case report.

Severe dental decay and changes in tooth structure have been reported in association with the use of lithium in Psychiatry, but lithium effects on tooth inorganic composition remain unknown. A 30-year-old woman with bipolar disorder, treated with lithium carbonate presented severe dental decay. Dentin samples from lithium and healthy volunteers were collected and submitted to ionic and ultrastructural analysis.

Mesenteric vein thrombosis after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Mesenteric vein thrombosis is a rare complication of bariatric laparoscopic surgery. We report a case of a 47-year-old man with obesity who had mesenteric vein thrombosis 14 days after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. He was treated with heparin anticoagulation with a good therapeutic response.

Salivary cortisol, alpha-amylase and heart rate variation in response to dental treatment in children.

Objective: Anxiety and stress are usually related to the dental treatment situation. The objective was to investigate salivary cortisol and alpha-amylase levels (salivary biomarkers) and heart rate in children undergoing a minor dental procedure (dental prophylaxis).

Study Design: In total, 31 children (range 84-95 months) of both genders without caries or history of dental treatment/pain/trauma were selected.

Methods: In this double-blind, randomized trial, in a primary analysis involving 7243 patients under the age of 75 years receiving aspirin, we evaluated up to 30 months of treatment with prasugrel (10 mg daily) versus clopidogrel (75 mg daily). In a secondary analysis involving 2083 patients 75 years of age or older, we evaluated 5 mg of prasugrel versus 75 mg of clopidogrel.

The aim of the present study was to analyze the effect of low-power laser irradiation in the antioxidant enzymatic system of submandibular (SMG) and parotid (PG) salivary glands of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Early first-trimester free-β-hCG and PAPP-A serum distributions in monochorionic and dichorionic twins.

Objective: To examine the distribution of first-trimester biochemical markers of aneuploidy in twins according to chorionicity.

Methods: Maternal serum free-β-human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) were measured between 8-13 + 6 weeks as a part of a routine first-trimester screening program in conjunction with fetal nuchal translucency measured at 11 to 13 + 6 weeks' gestation.
