In this article we define PC-AKI and its risk factors, propose a prophylaxis protocol and respond to the most common doubts that arise around prophylaxis.

Layer upon layer: Imaging techniques of bladder matrix stone: A case report.

Matrix lithiasis within the bladder is an extremely rare and diagnostically challenging condition, characterized by its atypical presentation and complex imaging appearance. We report the case of a 69-year-old woman with nonspecific urinary symptoms, including hematuria and abdominal pain. Initial ultrasonography revealed an echogenic lesion on the bladder wall, leading to further investigations using computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

O-RADS MRI scoring system: key points for correct application in inexperienced hands.

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of the O-RADS MRI criteria in the stratification of risk of malignancy of solid or sonographically indeterminate ovarian masses and assess the interobserver agreement of this classification between experienced and inexperienced radiologists.

Methods: This single-centre retrospective study included patients from 2019 to 2022 with sonographically indeterminate or solid ovarian masses who underwent MRI with a specific protocol for characterisation according to O-RADS MRI specifications. Each study was evaluated using O-RADS lexicon by two radiologists, one with 17 years of experience in gynaecological radiology and another with 4 years of experience in general radiology.

Quantitative time intensity curve analysis of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) examinations for the assessment of focal liver lesions.

Contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is well-established for the characterization of focal liver lesions (FLLs). By using intravenous ultrasound contrast agents, followed by specific low mechanical index examinations, CEUS enables a high spatial and temporal resolution as well as a dynamic assessment of macro- and microvascularization down to the capillaries. Nevertheless, CEUS has the disadvantage of being examiner-dependent, so quantitative analysis of time-intensity curves in dynamic CEUS (D-CEUS) could provide further information.

Implementation of a Customized Safety Checklist in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Importance of Team Time Out-A Dual-Center Pilot Study.

Checking and correctly preparing the patient for endoscopic procedures is a mandatory step for the safety and quality of the interventions. The aim of this paper is to emphasize the importance and necessity of a "team time out" as well as the implementation of a customized "checklist" before the actual procedure. We developed and implemented a checklist for the safe conduct of endoscopies and for the entire team to thoroughly know about the patient's medical history.

Groove pancreatitis (GP) is an uncommon appearance of pancreatitis represented by fibrous inflammation and a pseudo-tumor in the area over the head of the pancreas. The underlying etiology is unidentified but is firmly associated with alcohol abuse. We report the case of a 45-year-old male patient with chronic alcohol abuse who was admitted to our hospital with upper abdominal pain radiating to the back and weight loss.

This article reviews the Ovarian-Adnexal Reporting Data System Magnetic Resonance Imaging (O-RADS MRI) score for the characterization of indeterminate ovarian masses. We aim to provide sufficient information to enable readers to apply the score efficiently in clinical practice. To this end, we review the indications of the O-RADS MRI score and the specific MRI protocol that must be applied.

Background: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common hereditary cause of end-stage kidney disease. Educational Intervention in Rehabilitation to Improve Functional Capacity after Hip Arthroplasty: A Scoping Review.

Customized Manual Muscle Testing for Post-Stroke Upper Extremity Assessment.

In neuro-rehabilitation, the assessment of post-stroke patients’ motor function of damaged upper extremities (UEs) is essential. Clinicians need clear and concise assessment instruments to monitor progress recorded in intensive rehabilitation sessions. One such instrument is Manual Muscle Testing (MMT), which, in our view, requires a modified scoring model aimed at improving the assessment process of patients’ motor and functional UE status, and recording their step-by-step-progress, especially if patients undergo a short length of hospitalization (of about 10 therapy days).

Effect of Intranodally Administered Dendritic Cell-Based HIV Vaccine in Combination With Pegylated Interferon α-2a on Viral Control Following ART Discontinuation: A Phase 2A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Introduction: Functional cure has been proposed as an alternative to lifelong antiretroviral therapy and therapeutic vaccines represent one of the most promising approaches.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a double-blind randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial to evaluate the safety, immunogenicity, and effect on viral dynamics of a therapeutic vaccine produced with monocyte-derived dendritic cells (MD-DC) loaded with a high dose of heat-inactivated autologous (HIA) HIV-1 in combination with pegylated interferon alpha 2a (IFNα-2a) in people with chronic HIV-1.

Results: Twenty-nine male individuals on successful ART and with CD4+ ≥450 cells/mm were randomized 1:1:1:1 to receive three ultrasound-guided inguinal intranodal immunizations, one every 2 weeks: (1) vaccine ~10 MD-DC pulsed with HIA-HIV-1 (10 HIV RNA copies) ( = 8); (2) vaccine plus three doses of 180 mcg IFNα-2a at weeks 4-6 ( = 6); (3) placebo = saline ( = 7); and (4) placebo plus three doses of 180 mcg IFNα-2a ( = 8).
