[Successful deployment of a percutaneous aortic valve in a patient with a mitral prosthesis. Risks and technical considerations].

The deployment of a percutaneous aortic valve is challenging in patients with a mitral prosthesis. The risk of prosthetic deformation, embolization or dysfunction is higher in this group of patients, which requires a series of technical considerations. We report a successful implantation of an Evolut Pro # 29 self-expanding valve in a 67-year-old female with a previous Starr-Edwards caged-ball mitral prosthesis.

[Long term results of mitral balloon valvuloplasty].

Background: Mitral balloon valvuloplasty (MBV) is the therapy of choice for the treatment of symptomatic mitral stenosis with suitable anatomy. Although its short and mid-term results are favorable, there is a paucity of information about long-term follow-up.

Aim: To assess the late results of MBV.

[Rapid aspirin desensitization in patients with a history of aspirin hypersensitivity requiring coronary angioplasty. Report of four cases].

Aspirin use is necessary after a coronary angioplasty. It should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity. However, rapid desensitization protocols have been reported to allow its use in such patients.

[Bacteremia and endarteritis cases secondary to Campylobacter spp. in a metropolitan hospital: our experience along a quarter of a century].

Six cases of bacteremia and one of endarteritis were identified between 1986 and 2010 in a general hospital in Chile. Five of these cases occurred during the second half of this timeframe, Campylobacter fetus predominated (5 out of 7) and the majority of the infections presented during warmer months. The mean age was 32.

[Vibrio parahaemolyticus bacteremia: case report and literature review].

Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a facultative anaerobic gram negative rod responsible of sea food-associated diarrhoea. Although less common, it also causes wound infections and bacteraemia. We present a case of bacteraemia by this agent and a review of the literature.
