Gaussian processes and the Kullback-Leibler divergence have been deeply studied in statistics and machine learning. This paper marries these two concepts and introduce the local Kullback-Leibler divergence to learn about intervals where two Gaussian processes differ the most. We address subtleties entailed in the estimation of local divergences and the corresponding interval of local maximum divergence as well.

In Mexico, the species G. tuberculosum is used in indigenous communities, for example, the Wixaritari and mestizos of Villa Guerrero Jalisco for the treatment of diseases that may be related to parasitic infections; however, few chemical studies corroborate its traditional medicinal potential.

Many viral diseases exhibit seasonal behavior and can be affected by environmental stressors. Using time-series correlation charts extrapolated from worldwide data, we provide strong support for the seasonal development of COVID-19 regardless of the immunity of the population, behavioral changes, and the periodic appearance of new variants with higher rates of infectivity and transmissibility. Statistically significant latitudinal gradients were also observed with indicators of global change.

The available treatments against these parasitic diseases are limited and display multiple undesired effects. The brown alga belonging to the genus has been previously reported as a source of compounds with different biological activities.

Current studies focused on therapy against these diseases are aiming to find novel compounds with amoebicidal activity and low toxicity to human tissues. Brown algae, such as Gongolaria abies-marina (previously known as Cystoseira abies-marina, S.

This rapid timeline from announcement to withdrawal and subsequent power transfer had profound consequences on the Afghan people, particularly in the domains of health and healthcare.
Methods: On 15 September 2021, we posted an anonymous online cross-sectional survey on social media (Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp groups) to collect data about respondents from Afghanistan.
Seasonal behaviour is an attribute of many viral diseases. Like other 'winter' RNA viruses, infections caused by the causative agent of COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, appear to exhibit significant seasonal changes. Here we discuss the seasonal behaviour of COVID-19, emerging viral phenotypes, viral evolution, and how the mutational landscape of the virus affects the seasonal attributes of the disease.

Even mild BP elevations manifesting as high-normal BP have been associated with cardiovascular risk. We hypothesize that persistent elevated BP increases atherosclerotic plaque development.

Design: Retrospective case-control study.
Methods: Case group included 50 clinically unaffected fellow eyes diagnosed with asymmetric keratoconus showing subtle qualitative changes at the 0.
The in vitro activity against Leishmania spp. of five novel designed compounds, phenalenone derivatives, is described in this study. Previous works have shown that some phenalenones present leishmanicidal activity, some of which could induce programmed cell death events in L.

In Fuerteventura Island (Spain), an extremely arid territory in the European Union, brackish water desalination is one of the few available water sources for agricultural production. Very little research has been conducted on the microbiological quality of this water mainly used for irrigation of vegetable crops.

Often, each source of information is given as a similarity, distance, or a kernel matrix. In this paper, we propose a new class of methods which consists of producing, for anomaly detection purposes, a single Mercer kernel (that acts as a similarity measure) from a set of local entropy kernels and, at the same time, avoids the task of model selection.

Methods: We identified 61 Vancouver B and B periprosthetic hip fractures treated with modular fluted tapered implants. Survivorship, radiographic outcomes, and clinical outcomes were assessed.
Purpose: Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is used in cases of severe respiratory and/or circulatory failure over periods of several days to several weeks. Its circuitry requires a closely monitored anticoagulation therapy that is empirically supported by activated clotting time (ACT)-a method often associated with large inter- and intraindividual variability. We aimed to compare the measurement of heparin activity with ACT and the direct measurement of the heparin activity (anti-Xa) in a large ECMO population.

We provide a reproducing kernel Hilbert space model to estimate entropy from a random sample of realizations of a stochastic process, namely functional data, and introduce two approaches to estimate minimum entropy sets. These sets are relevant to detect anomalous or outlier functional data.

The purpose of this study was evaluating its efficacy perioperative nutritional support to reduce surgical complications, stances and mortality significantly in patients undergoing higher digestive tract procedures.
Method: A prospective, randomized trial was done among a sample of neoplasic patients undergoing higher intestinal tract resective surgery during a period of 4 years.
Objectives: Malnutrition is clearly associated with increased morbidity and mortality after elective abdominal surgery. The purpose of this study was to compare perioperative nutritional support with traditional postoperative dietary management, evaluating its efficacy to reduce surgical complications, stances and mortality significantly in patients undergoing major colorectal procedures.
Method: A prospective, randomized trial was done among a sample of neoplasic patients undergoing intestinal resective surgery during a period of near 3 years.
Objectives: To compare the incidence of gastrointestinal side effects of two enteral feeding formulas with changes in the origin of protein (casein and isolated soy protein) in hospitalised elderly patients.
Method: A cross sectional survey was done among a sample of elderly patients carrying nasogastric tube admitted to the Reina Sofia General Hospital (Murcia) during a period of 6 months. A formula based on casein or soybean protein was randomly assigned.
The intramolecular Nicholas reaction of propargylic alcohols derived from N, N-acyl-diprotected omega-semialdehydes obtained from glutamic acid provided stereoselectively 5-alkynylproline derivatives. The suitable choice of the N-protecting group (tosyl or benzoyl derivative) permitted control of the stereochemistry during the ring formation. Semiempirical calculations of the species involved in the cyclization support the observed stereochemistry.
